Wow.

If he's stepping down now for health reasons then it must really be serious. While I wouldn't be surprised if he returns somewhere else in a few years, if this is really serious I also wouldn't be surprised if we never see him on the sidelines again. It's a good thing for Florida that he announced this now so they can begin looking for a replacement instead of him announcing it after the bowl game when all the good coaches would have already been taken.

I certainly do not envy the person who takes over for him at Florida. You are replacing a legend and you have to replace one at QB.

Yeah I can kind of see him being the next HC at Ohio St. If they are smart they give him a job NOW inside the Atheltic department.

When I heard this I thought for sure he was headed to the NFL. Sounds like serious health issues. Prayers to him and his family in his situation whatever it may be.

Here is what I think. Michigan called Urban and said they are interested. So he steps down so the Wolverines can fire Rich Rod, hire Urban, and the Michigan program is back again!

I must say, I'm pretty shocked..

It'll be interesting to see who they target as their next HC. I'm guessing Kyle Wittingham gets a looksie..

Good luck Urban. Finally someone understands that health is worth a lot more than 4 million/year.

I still maintain that he's got an offer from the Cowboys or another NFL team, and he's too afraid to go back on his word (yet again), and leave his school after promising he'd be there for a long time.

Both of you are cynical. He's had a documented medical history, and he went to the hospital after the SEC championship, not for "dehydration". My friend Ryan whose in the athletic training program at Florida told me that this has been an issue plaguing him the whole year.

Yeah, I'm not totally doubting that it's legit. I'm simply saying that if he is on the sidelines next fall, I don't know how shocked I'll be.

Glad to see that one of his last acts as Florida coach is over shadowing the players. Why not tell Florida Admin so that they can start their internal process, then tell the players after the game, then the media.

If it is health issues, good luck to him and his family. Every column Ive read online, plus both guys on ESPN think he will be coaching within 2 years.

OSU please hire him now as a consultant to the football program. Once his health is taken care of hire him as the Assistant HC/OC. Tap him as the next HC after Tressel decides to retire. I know but it is the Christmas season and I can hope and wish....

My friend is the Florida athletic director and he told me that Urban Meyer is just scared.

See.... I can make shit up too.

I think it's funny that he's having chest pains, and tightness, and blah blah blah, but his heart is "healthy".

So what's the problem?

I call BS. It's either that or he needs to stop being a pussy.

^^^^^
I applaud a man that puts his health and family wishes infront of a 4 mil/yr contract.
