I wouldn't recommend starting your wife on a compact pistol. Start full size, even if you just go to a range and rent one. Something she can really grab onto and has enough weight to hold back a lot of the recoil. It's the best way to convince them that they'll be alright moving onto other guns.

Springfield is having a safety recall on some of their XDs pistols (both 9 and 45 models were affected). Unfortunately mine fell within the serial number range. They sent me a link to print out a postage-paid UPS label but really gave no tips on how to package the gun. Am I okay to just wrap it in a towel and then some bubble wrap or should I do something else? This will be the first time I've shipped a firearm and since they just want the gun (no case) I want to make sure I don't fuck it up.

This is what I'll probably end up doing. I emailed Springfield directly but never heard back. I might give them a call first and hope I get through.

Same situation here. the gf also shoots the 92fs pretty well.

Thanks for the link. It doesn't specifically point out how to package up just a gun, but it did point out a few requirements as far as shipping goes.
