Sorry it's hard for me to make sense of the situation. Can somebody with more sense on the matter than me please explain what's going on there? Is it good for democracy? What's the plan going forward? etc.

It's good if done right.
In a nutshell, the protestors, who represent the more moderate and for easy explanation, pro-Western sects, have repeatably stated that Morsi has only ruled in favor of his party and the Muslim Brotherhood.

The protestors have stated that since Morsi has taken over goods and services have dropped and he has limited religious freedom, and other items.
So, the Military said enough is enough.

Hopefully, if done right, and this depends on the candidates for election and how the new Parliament and Constitution is populated and written, will lead to a more moderate and relgious tolerate Egypt.
So, cautious optimism.

LOL, how often are military coups "done right"?

It's like that line from Gladiator where the Senator says "and then what, you'll just leave?"

Whether you liked Morsi or not, any time a democratically elected government is overthrown by the military, your suspicions should be raised. America is not coming out of this smelling like a rose, and the dithering, ambiguous foreign policy we have been engaged in, has both sides not happy with the USA.

Agreed military coups are seldom "good things" but in this case its definitely in US favor to get rid of the guys who were cheering when the Towers fell.

Yet, we continue to give billions of dollars to Egypt after this military coup, even though it is illegal. Oh, but wait....it's not a coup according to this administration.

OATS: Youre gonna sit there and bust Obama's balls for what's happening in Egypt? Grab a clue from the bag Alicia...the US needs to be completely "hands off" and say "no comment" as this unfolds.

No, you missed the point. Everyone crucified Bush over his foreign policy and handling of world affairs; they said obama would save the world from itself; they gave him the Nobel peace prize in advance of his presumed abilities to spread peace throughout all the world; they continue to worship his every move. Yet the chaos in the world is at a peak; the violence is at a peak; the unrest is at a peak; the lack of leadership is at a peak; and Americans have no idea what we stand for or whose side we are on.

The sham presidency continues.

NBC reporting Cairo in the throes of complete chaos with hundreds dead and hundreds more wounded. Erupted sometime early morning EST and is continuing into the Egyptian night right now. Should we give a shit or hope for as many dead Moozlums as possible?

The only thing we should do is stop sending them foreign aid immediately. Per our own laws, it's illegal for us to send foreign aid to a country that has been overthrown via military coup. But we're still doing it anyways. In fact, Rand Paul proposed legislation a few weeks ago that would have taken the money from Egypt and put it directly into our fund for bridges. It failed overwhelmingly. And then days later the President said that he would love to find a funding mechanism to fix infrastructure.

What a refreshing opinion from someone who frequently rails about racism in various threads.

And what if that pulls them away further from the U.S. and into a pro-Brotherhood Government? And, what if it leads them to void the Israeli peace treaty?

The current situation sucks, as the Army acted recklessly and pretty much played right into the Brotherhood's hand.
I'll just add what are the options for the U.S.?
Honestly, what is a good option?

Should the U.S. wash their hands, leading to potentially more chaos in the region?
Or, should the U.S. try and work with the new Government like it is trying to do.

Transitions and new Governments are messy. Remember it took us years.
