Actually, a few weeks ago, my fiance's car and mine were messed with. We accidently left them unlocked in our driveway. I don't keep anything in my car, but she had an old iPhone stolen that she was using to play music. Our neighbor who also leaves her van unlocked had something stolen, too. My house now has a moat and we've had any problems since.

This happens on our street frequently. We've left our vehicles unlocked a few times and every single time it was rummaged through. Some punk kid stole a few dollars with of quarters out of by buddies car. Luckily the neighbor saw them and called. My buddy drove the couple blocks to the grocery store and there they were loading up on cans of soda from the vending machine.
The youngsters were smart not to try running away.

If our cars are locked it isn't an issue. They don't break into them, just check if they are unlocked. But yes, I want to move.
