That's a terrible argument. He's in the big leagues isn't he? He's going to be judged as a big leaguer.

And he's judged as someone who has now 19 RBI's in 45 games. Something like 1 RBI every 8 at-bats.

Not good.
Hanigan has 13 RBI's in 40 games. Is he terrible too?

What's his WAR? That's the true test.

Halfway through the season, 46-35. I'll take it, considering the following.

Ryan Ludwick has 1 at-bat
Johnny Cueto has been on the DL 3 times
Sean Marshall has been on the DL twice
Jonathan Broxton is on the DL
Ryan Hanigan and Chris Heisey have both been on the DL a month (or longer) during the year
Nick Masset, while not expected to pitch early, still has been unable to resume any throwing
Brandon Phillips has missed 9 games due to injury and another 2 games due to the paternity thing

Not to make excuses, but the Reds have been hurt bad by some key injuries. I will also preface that by saying in 2012, they were EXTREMELY LUCKY to escape the bad luck as much as they did. Of course, karma bit them during the playoffs, when Cueto went out, and Votto returned from injury (in September) and wasn't the same. Heck, he didn't really "get it back" until May of 2013.

Hopefully, the opposite comes true this year and a patchwork, banged up club hits on all cylinders for a 3 week stretch in October.

He's a catcher he's not going to play a full season. Since we're 80 games into the season, it comes out to about 39 RBIs in a full season.

Yeah, and he will appear in about 80 games. I fail to see your point in criticizing his RBI output. It's team dependent, he bats 8th, and he only plays in half the games.

And I'm not trying to say he's lighting the world on fire or anything. Just defending him from the "flop" comment.

He's closer to flop than lighting the world on fire. That's what I'm saying.

I'm 11-5 on Reds threads.

Devin Mesoraco is a middle of the order hitter.......or that was what they kept saying when he was on the verge of being called up.

IMO, Mesoraco WILL be a good hitter. I'm just not sure, that with the bar Hanigan (and Molina) set defensively and with the staff, that Walt, Dusty and co. will EVER make the change to Mesoraco full-time unless his offense completely explodes. It's kind of a catch-22. If he got 500 at-bats, I'd bet he could hit 20 HR and drive in 70-80 runs THIS year. Would he give them as many walks and quality games caught as Hanigan? No.

Mesoraco, a perfect comparison, is J.P. Arencibia, but with a better eye and OBP. Arencibia plays almost everyday, but he can also DH in the AL.

If that's your argument, then I would agree. However, I would also say that 85% of players in the MLB are closer to flop than lighting the world on fire.
