I don't know why people are so upset about Serena's comments. What she said is correct. She's not blaming the victim for the boys actions, she's saying that girls need to be smarter about their personal decisions.
For example, if you get in the car with your drunk friend and he crashes and you both die; there are two people at fault. The person who was drunk driving broke the law(ie. the rape) but the person who chose to go in the car, while technically not committing a crime, is still at fault for choosing to enter the car. Are people really this stupid and emotionally involved that they cannot see the difference?
No one is trying to defend what the boys did, it was wrong no matter what and they were punished accordingly. The girl, however, isn't free of blame either. Don't want to get raped? Don't get in the car.

These weren't random people she met at a club. These were friends of hers. You don't expect your friends to take advantage of you and piss on you if you get a little drunk or in this case a lot drunk.
I think we have all had those days or nights with friends where we were the stupid drunk person . Your friends are supposed to be there to help you, not p*** on you and rape you in the you and leave you lying in the Street

Your friends are also not supposed to drive drunk and kill everyone in the car either. Your point? Once again, no one(except for delusional stubenville people) are trying to say the boys don't deserve their punishment, but pretending the girl is just absolved of any responsibility is downright retarded.gport_tennis;1460154 wrote:These weren't random people she met at a club. What a terrible comparison. So basically everyone has the exact opposite opinion as you and you think everyone else is stupid. Don't be that guy, nobody likes that guy.

Right just like everyone is respecting Serena's opinion? :thumbup:Rotinaj;1460158 wrote:What a terrible comparison. So basically everyone has the exact opposite opinion as you and you think everyone else is stupid. Don't be that guy, nobody likes that guy.
People are emotionally attached and emotions and rationality do not mix. From an objective perspective(read: my perspective), both parties are to blame for being stupid.

At times, semantics make a huge difference. Did she make poor choices that made the situation possible or more likely? Yes. Her share of the "blame"? Zero.

Ya'all need to give FWK a break on this.
Without raping a comatose drunk woman then he would still be a virgin.
This is the point that is trying to be made....Yes, it is wrong to rape someone. As my Drill SGT would say.....it is as wrong as to boys holding hands. (now you *** lovers can bash that comment).
EVERYONE needs to take personal responsibility in their lives to help prevent bad shit from happening to them. Ya cannot stop all stuff of course, but ya should do your best to not put yourself in situations where stuff like that can happen.

Serena said that the girl was fucking lucky and it could be worse. How could it be worse? If they murdered her? She also doesn't even know what she thinks of their punishment. Her quote just makes her sound stupid as hell.

Perhaps that's the spirit in which she intended it, but when one says "I'm not blaming the girl, but", you're blaming the girl. Again, words have meaning and they have power.sleeper;1460171 wrote:Which isn't this what Serena said?

Exactly. If I'm Serena I don't say anything regarding the subject. Her words were chosen poorly but what she actually intended is correct and accurate.queencitybuckeye;1460174 wrote:Perhaps that's the spirit in which she intended it, but when one says "I'm not blaming the girl, but", you're blaming the girl. She's lucky it wasn't worse is incorrect? Rape is worse than murder? :laugh:Rotinaj;1460173 wrote:Serena said that the girl was fucking lucky and it could be worse. How could it be worse? Are you really this retarded? She's not lucky that she got raped, she's lucky that she wasn't killed as well.Rotinaj;1460189 wrote:She was not lucky. Its as simple as that. Saying so is beyond dumb.
I'm okay with your line of thinking I just ask that you don't vote or reproduce.

Do you apply this rationality to your own life? Like perhaps if your daughter falls off a roller coaster ride and only breaks her hip rather than her spine, paralyzing her for life, is she lucky?Rotinaj;1460222 wrote:Youre 100% correct. Shes one lucky girl. My bad, you win.
I would say she is. You do realize you are arguing against rationality? Never argue against rationality, not even Con_Alma would attempt this.

Unfortunately, I think Serena took this stance because the victim is white, and it's too bad. It just proves that racism goes both ways, which if too often overlooked.
