What's he need? His defense will keep him from needing the huge HOF offensive stats.

I think if he can get to 6 Gold Gloves he can get in with 2500 hits, 275 HR, 1200 runs, 1200 RBI......maybe 2350 hits if he does all the other stuff. To me he's about 60% there....needs about 4-5 more BP years.

Also.....we've seen the HR, RBI and other stats compared to Morgan while playing for the Reds.....here are some other stats.

I think if he can get to 2300 hits and 1,000 RBI's he has a chance combined with his defense. Only about half of the second basemen in the hall have reached 2500 hits and several have less than 1000 RBI's.

As of right now no. Could he get there? Possibly. He needs to have a couple huge years

Unless something major changes...the HOF would be even more of a joke if he got in. I think you need to be dominant for a long stretch to be a hall of famer...not just pretty good. BP is a solid player, but there have been plenty as good as him through the years. Even right now, Cano and Pedroia are better all around players. He has never been a guy that sticks out as "holy shit, that guy is amazing" to anyone....well, other than reds fans. lol

^^^agree with the above. I do think he will be nominated, at least, especially if he has a few more big years. Who should be in the HOF, however, is the guy who stole him from the Indians:laugh:.

Agreed. I say the same thing to steelers fans who think whines ward should be in the HOF.

Also if defense is what helps keep BP in the discussion then Omar better get in before him.

Cano is definitely better than BP overall, but I would put BP and Pedroia about even. Needless to say, those two both have work to do to even be considered.

Would love to see Omar get in, and wouldn't have a problem with him getting in ahead of BP, but I'm not sure his offensive numbers will be enough. Hopefully his amazing defense is.

If he would have gotten to 3k hits I think he would have been a sure thing, but he is only at 2.8k and his power numbers/RBIs just aren't there. If he gets in he will have his defense to thank.

Probably the greatest defensive ss ever. The only one I would think about putting ahead of him would be Ozzie

Also have to consider the players BP has been playing with during his career who will retire a little before and after he retires. He has a lot of competition, not to mention the guys currently waiting to get in. The baseball HOF seems the toughest to get in. Seems like there are only 1-2 guys who get in each year. The journalists who vote these guys in are pretty petty. If they didn't QQ about the roids era, BP wouldn't even be close to being in any discussion.

The only thing keeping Omar out is that he played last season. Just give it 5 years.

We will see. I see a lot of writers placing Omar in the "Hall of really good,' but not the HOF.

That's crazy to me. He is the best fielding shortstop that I have ever seen...including Ozzie.

You have to hit a milestone, or be dominant for a long stretch (5ish years). BP has done neither.

Milestones would be 10 GG, 3k hits, 500HR, 1500 RBI.

Dominant would be someone who is top 10 in MVP for like 5 years out of 6. Pujols, A-Rod, Miggy...those guys can retire today and be in the HOF.

He's batting 4th and offensive HOF numbers have to be pretty high in today's game.

Omar will get in down the road....he might be 55-60 years old...but he'll get in.

Maybe I worded it wrong but But BP HOF now was not intended to be the question.

10 GG isn't a milestone for HOF....Andruw Jones over 400 HR and 10 GG....IMO has no chance and he's the best CF I've ever seen.

I think the high number of GG (5 or more) eliminates some of the huge necessary stats.

I didnt mean a lock with 10 GG. But if you dont have the offense, you need that many imo, for consideration.

Omar is actually a good example I wasnt thinking of. 7 GG and he has no shot, imo. He has 11 and we are talking about how he is likely in at some point.

So is Adam Dunn a HOFer? (assuming he gets 80 more HRs)

Having this debate right now actually w/ a friend lol

Ok....gonna give you two guys that fit this criteria I think, to me one was dominant and put up JUST enough numbers to get in and the other was also dominant but I think he didn't do enough and will never make it.

Vladimir Guerrero
Albert Belle

I think you have to have the milestone locks, dominant for closer to a decade, dominant with some longevity or incredible longevity with very good (Craig Biggio, some may say Andre Dawson, Palmeiro had he not got caught, Don Sutton, Gaylord Perry, Phil Niekro....Ozzie and Omar can be thrown in here with less offense)

As I typed that I actually was thinking after the roids era that 600 is the new 500. I think Olney said something similar to that in his voting mind a few years ago.
