read the comments on a huffington post article about the tornadoes, wish I hadn't. Lot of people glorifying in the tradegy because of the religion of the area. Bunch of idiots.

Said 4-6 grade all kids are accounted for. K-3 that part of the school was flattened and the kids were only in a hallway. They're searching under the rubble for them. Wow

I read something about the watertable and not being able to have basements in the schools.

I have literally no idea. Was just going through Twitter and saw that tweet. I haven't paid much attention to this.

Preliminary rating of "at least EF4" from the NWS. They'll look closer tomorrow and determine max wind.

Death toll at 37 right now.

Conflicting information on the students, Weather Channel saying all alive, KFOR saying 7 died (drowned, as you all mentioned)

I haven't been watching long enough. How did they drown? Underground shelter that flooded? That seems unlikely to me. Direct rainwater? Seem unlikely as well.

You fail to see how water could get in a ditch in the middle of a storm?

Wow. I've been disconnected all day and just trying to coast through work.

The overhead flyover is insane, like something out of a movie.

My question is this, how is it possible for a school to NOT have a suitable shelter in TORNADO FUCKING ALLEY!?

I read somewhere that they thought water tables prevented a basement from being built. Derp, build the school somewhere else, right?

You wouldn't normally expect the school to be built on the low ground, but who knows how the tornado rearranges things. I'd assume the debris they were buried under allowed rain water to collect faster than it was able to drain.
