I think it's both. Columbus is a city of nearly a million people, whereas SB is only a few hundred thousand, so there are less people around to just be around. Also, OSU's campus is in downtown Columbus, so there are plenty o places to tailgate and hangout on game day outside o the stadium. Since Notre Dame Stadium is on campus and since the campus is pretty isolated with just a shopping center and a residential neighborhood surrounding it, there aren't many places to tailgate or other things to do once the game starts if you aren't in the stadium. I think Notre Dame has a great game day atmosphere and experience, but it was just vastly different from what I'm used to in Columbus.
