Buckeye basketball and Duke-hater fan here. I don't really hate on Duke that much, but I definitely hate on their fans. LoL.

I'm pretty civil mostly, and I invest more time than most watching the Buckeyes' basketball team. I am glad the season is underway.

Yes, originally from Akron (UA grad) but I live in Nome. I can assure you though, aliens didn't take anyone :)

After looking at the other thread (the Barnes one) first, I knew burg was already here. Classic burg ;) I forgive you, though. Being the New York Yankees of college basketball (or as close as a college team can get to that point) for a stretch of almost a quarter century will help you in this regard. After 8-20, God knows you guys deserve something in return (even if you are Carolina). ;)

Maybe not as hyped as Shav, but there have been some recruits that Carolina, perhaps with the persuasion of Air Jordan, have taken away from Duke that I haven't lost much sleep over either.

Here's one (although, oddly enough I couldn't find any recent photographs)..

Anyone remember this thing's name? I just remember the mouth.

Haha. I figured as much :) Disappointing for everyone here, though. We all went to the movies hoping you guys had really been eatin' by alien beings. Ah well.

Glad you're here!

duke fans like to compare themselves with the N.Y. Yankees. However, I think duke is about 24 championships short in that regard. With their recent downward trend, I think more people think of them as the Atlanta Braves of college basketball. Win some 3 day ACC championships (or NL West/East titles if you're the Braves) and flame out when the games matter the most.

Gotta love duke fans...they think they're so important:) Go Heels!

I know what you're trying to say towards Duke fans, but that 3 day ACC Championship IS the ACC Championship.

Good point. And Carolina hasn't fared too well in this department for the last decade. Duke ACC titles since 1999: EIGHT ... Carolina ACC titles since 1999: TWO!

Carolina also has two national titles in that time frame, but Duke has one as well. So both have had tons of national tournament success as well. It's pretty amazing that the Blue Devils have also won 8 of the ACC's last 11 titles. That's unheard of this day and age. And, to add a little frosting, more wins than any other team in all of college basketball over that time frame.

Yes, Duke has had some struggles in the Dance recently, but its also had a ton of success.

We Are Duke!

It is like winning the NIT. It is a "Who Cares" championship.

Yes, that's why the Georgia Dome has sold out over 40,000 seats for this "Who Cares" championship over the years. From 1966 to 2008, there was never a public sale of tickets. They were sold out every single year in advance.

This is one of the greatest spectacles in all of sports, not just in college basketball. It is the Grand Daddy of them all, the tournament all other conference tournaments aspire to be but never will be. It's NCAA basketball's oldest and most successful event.

And within it, the ACC Champion is crowned.

Try and wrap your mind around that. As I've said before, the ACC handbook and bylaws -- which are owned by the greatest, winningest and most successful college basketball conference in history -- have declared this.

Who are you?

There's only one championship greater than the ACC championship in college basketball and that's the National Championship... Which, UNC has done twice sine 2005.

For all major conferences except the ACC the conference champion is the regular season champion. If you look in the history books most conferences define their champion as the regular season champ but also have a section for the tournament champion.

IMO this is the way it should be as the regular season champ showed themselves as the best for an entire season not a 4 days free for all.

But, the ACC has never looked at it this way. The ACC champ is the conference tournament champ. There is an ACC regular season winner but that is just for seeding purposes.

I'm not saying I like it or disagree with most of your thoughts above but the fact is the ACC does not define its conference champion the way the other conferences do. Duke is the reigning ACC champ and has pretty much owned the ACC for the better part of a decade.

Of course I agree with Ltrain UNC's national title last year is much more important that a conference title but those are the facts.

Try to wrap your head around this. It is stupid, illogical, and irrelevant. You can spin it anyway you want , but the champion is the team that won the battles over the course of a regular season, not some team that won 3 games in 4 days.
When most fans remember last year, they won't remember who won the ACC tournament. They will remember which team dominated the league and won a national championship.

The winner of the ACC Tournament is the official ACC Champion, which we all obviously know. It's my opinion that an entire conference season is certainly a better indicator of a team's ability than a three day tournament, but the ACC does not recognize the regular season winner as the conference champion. Should it be that way? In my opinion, no. However, it is, and that's just something that we have to acknowledge.

As far as I'm concerned, Duke can have all the ACC Championships it wants as long as Carolina keeps winning national championships with regularity. That's the #1 goal.

Az 24 isn't going to make the 'jump'. I'm suprised I remember part of his fist name over there. Reds...something. He flamed out and got the gong after having over 9500 posts. The Reds melted down then he had a melt down about the Reds. Joined right away with the Az 24. It's a shame cause I always like his insight on UK basketball. Someone out there needs to let him know that the 'gangs all here' now. He's gotta do it...it's FREE and not as 'sterile' !!!

I'll probably post more in this forum now that I'm away from there. I used to tear it up back in 2004 and 2005. Had some great debates back then. Loved hearing from TheGreatOne. That was one Carolina fan that this UK fan could respect back in the day.

TGO had been gone from the Huddle for quite some time. I believe he took a job in the athletic department or something? He was always the answer to the "who would you like to have dinner with" threads.

Much respected guy. One of the greatest compliments I ever received on that place was from Him. Don't have the time to go into to it now, but the jest of it was 'you are a nice debater, hope to see you around longer. I like your insight'.

Had not posted too much over on college BB board on JJ 'cause...let's face it, the Bucks have recruited too well the last few seasons and haven't been able to pull it all together for a run :)

I'll probably be around a little more...

Agreed, Laley.

I've put out messages for a couple of other posters, but I think some have already shut down shop over there. When the site's owners did the shit they did, I think a lot of people left for good, and probably aren't even looking at it anymore.

As others have pointed out, I can't believe the Huddle initially left the personal message system running. That single handily ruined their business, IMO. Who knows, had this site not been created or had I not heard of it, I might have decided to pay the money, thinking everyone probably did too. (The Huddle has always been a tremendous site to find college basketball information, and I probably wouldn't have wanted to lose that info.) Damn good thing I didn't and that this was created, because that site is like some other internet world. Reminds me of a Twilight Zone episode. I can't believed they f****** themselves like that. Suicide is right.
