You only get to keep it for a year, but yeah, I'd have a hard time taking it off.

Generally no. Some have accidentally taken it and kept it. But after the 1st year a person has to return it to Augusta, but he can wear it when he visits.

It stays in your locker right? The green jacket is what the members wear and you aren't a member unless you win. That's why you get the jacket, but it stays at the clubhouse in your new locker (which is also given as a new member).

At least, that's what I have always been told.

Interesting, I never really knew the entire history and tradition of the jacket.
In addition to a cash prize, the winner of the tournament is presented with a distinctive green jacket, formally awarded since 1949, and informally acquired by the champions for many years before that. The green sport coat is the official attire worn by members of Augusta National while on the club grounds; each Masters winner becomes an honorary member of the club. The recipient of the green jacket has it presented to him inside the Butler Cabin soon after the end of the tournament, and the presentation is then repeated outside near the 18th green in front of the spectators. Winners keep their jacket for the first year after their first victory, then return it to the club to wear whenever they visit. The tradition began in 1949, when Sam Snead won his first of three Masters titles. The green jacket is only allowed to be removed from Augusta National by the reigning champion, after which it must remain at the club. Exceptions to this rule include Gary Player, who in his joy of winning mistakenly took his jacket home to South Africa after his 1961 victory (although he has always followed the spirit of the rule and has never worn the jacket);[SUP][49][/SUP] Seve Ballesteros who, in an interview with Peter Alliss from his home in Pedreña, showed one of his two green jackets in his trophy room; and Henry Picard, whose jacket was removed from the club before the tradition was well established, remained in his closet for a number of years, and is now on display at Canterbury Golf Club in Beachwood, Ohio, where he was the club professional for many years.[SUP][50][/SUP][SUP][51][/SUP]

Once again you open your mouth and validate your ignorance. Thank you for not disappointing.

We're going to see some high scores today, if Tiger has any chance he needs to get going. Wouldn't be surprised if winner is -10 or over.

I don't think Tiger has it today. He probably needed that putt on number 3, and probably needed to birdie 2 also, to get things started. Like you said, -10 or -11 will probably win it, so he's too far back. That damn mess on 15 on Friday killed his chance, I'm afraid.

Yeah, Tiger had 2 good opportunities already for birdies and didn't make them, it's not his week.

Tiger's game is usually predicated on shooting around 69 and letting everyone fall apart around him. It's part of the reason he has never come from behind to win a major.

With the lead at -7 to start the day, if it finished at -9 he would have to fire a 66 to tie and he just doesn't like to get that aggressive in final rounds.

In his mind though he is really -7 right now but got screwed, so that is what he will likely hang his hat on after the tournament when people ask him why he didn't come back and win.

I think I'm rooting for Snedeker, or maybe Day. Not really wanting to see Cabrera win again, and I don't care that much for Adam Scott.

Day is an Ohio guy, isn't he? Never mind, he's Australian and married an Ohio woman and lives in Dublin.

Now that he has gotten way behind Tiger seems poised to start a charge once he makes that putt on 6. We have seen this song and dance from him at the Masters in the past.

LOL. The guy has won The Masters FOUR times. He has won FOURTEEN majors. Yet you're giving him shit for never winning one from behind.

I admit, I like Tiger as a golfer, but the hatred from some of you guys is overboard.

if he's going to make a move, he needs to be at -5 or -6 before the turn. Nope, his putting isn't working, didn't make the birdie on 6.
