Kind of like the "political meme" thread, just post numbers you see that are beyond credulous (but credible, not just some gross error or misprint).

Here's a few to get things started that kind of floored me:

1) DoD employs 800k civilians. That's more than the ENTIRE auto-industry!!!

2) The USDA employs 1 person for every 8 farmers!!!

1) the average person farts 16oz of gas a day.

There are 11 states where the takers (welfare recipients and govt workers) outnumber or equal the makers (private sector workers). Ohio is #11 with a 1:1 ratio.

Do they include teachers, police, firemen, etc in with govt workers? If so that's not quite fair

Why isn't that fair? Those are government workers funded by tax dollars. Public education is a very large entitlement.

I'm not necessarily saying that those jobs should be cut but there is absolutely a problem when you're looking at a 1:1 ratio or worse regardless of who is included. There are A LOT of other public sector jobs that can be cut to reduce the burden on tax payers before getting to firefighters and teachers.

True, I would like to see what the numbers are of how many people on welfare versus state employees versus private. I'm not quite comfortable lumping teachers and police in with the drug dealing welfare thieves as "takers"

I didn't say that at all. There are many government employees that provide beneficial services.

Public school teachers are government employees providing a large entitlement to the community.
