Do you have a fifth third account? They are changing their accounts and today is the deadline to select your new account type or have them pick one for you.

I cancelled my checking and savings because they are not my primary bank and they did not have an account for me that would not have had an $11/month service fee. Fuck that.

We pay our mortgage out of a 5/3 account. I don't remember seeing anything about this.

It's for checking accounts:

B
asically, if you don't have an eAccess account, you may be subject to a fee - depending on your account type, and your average monthly checking/savings balance, and if you have direct deposit, etc.

I use them only because my company is in the same building = convenience. I have not heard anything of this either.

There are plenty of reasons why people would complain about Fifth Third, this wouldn't be the only excuse. :)

I literally have not heard a single positive thing about Fifth Third from anybody I know. Know maybe 5-7 people that have left Fifth Third over the past few years for various reasons. Might not be much different than any other bank but some friends have had really bad luck with them.

btw, some of you may not have heard anything as they aren't transitioning all their account holders at once (they're rolling it out in different locations at different times). So you may not be changing today - but you will be changing.

If you're pissed with them, I suggest looking into a credit union, or an online checking account (like Schwab)

Hahaha....I think pretty much every bank has hidden fees and other BS that sneaks up on you if you don't pay attention. A popular trick is new accounts with introductory rates (woohoo- get that extra 10bps!) that quietly go away. Doesn't pay these days, but basically you'd have to transfer to a new account every year or so to get the best return on your savings.

Yeah, every bank has different things that can upset a customer, but most of the issues from what I remember were Fifth Third just plain fucking something up on their end, not as simple as hidden fees or charges or something. I think it was just that most of my closer friends used Fifth Third so that's why I heard the stories about them. Now most are with PNC from what I know and seems like people love them.

I had them until last week. I got the letter and junk about the fees and immediately decided to switch.

They do shit like lose basic mortgages in underwriting causing people to lose houses (happened to a friend)
Cut credit lines then call back a day later with an offer for a new line.

For some reason I think their specialty is fucking up mortgage originations. They actually offer a few nice products, but dealing with their underwriting is not worth it at all.

Oh man, my company is getting bashed to shit on here! Time to step up and defend the 53 honor...so whats everyone got a problem with that I can help clarify? Ill start by saying yes 53rd isn't perfect so please don't take this as me saying we are...but I will say, just like with any bank, if you have a good banker on your account to watch things for you, you wont have any issues.

Are private banking clients affected by the account changes?

I will say this..it sucks to have to deal with this as a client of the bank, I get it..you don't want to have to deal with your checking account changing..understood. but 95% of the customers I see I can convert to a free account in 1 min. It literally takes a minute phone call to get set up into a fee-less account and almost everyone I see falls into that kind of account.

Then why not just make them all free and have people chose the fee accounts on their own accord? Why should people have to switch over to a new account to charge fees?

I hate Huntington's new hours, they're open from 9-3. Who the f*** has time to go to the bank between those hours. A damn 15 year old would be busy from 9 to 3, let alone a grownup
