Yes he was. She apparently wouldnt believe it and ended up going crazy. From where she sits you can see the ships come in and apparently she's stopped traffic before because she goes into the street yelling hoping its him.

Buskers in the subway are different. If they are rocking out and entertaining me, I always give them something.
By far the most generous person on here.

Marketing: It's not just for employed people.

If I'm driving somewhere, and I see the same person panhandling in the same spot more than twice in a row, I'll usually swing through Taco Bell and get something cheap on my way back so I can give it to them. However, the guys who stand outside the gas station always get the, "I'm sorry, but I don't carry cash." In my defense, it's true.

It's the people who "employ" panhandlers that bug me the most, though. Bastards ...

I distinctly remember a lady refusing free food from me. Mind you this was outside a McDonald's, and she was asking for money for food:

Lady: "Sir, can you spare some change so I can get something to eat?

Me: "I don't have any change, I'm sorry (I didn't...I had a debit card)." So I went inside the McD's, bought my lunch, and then bought an extra cheeseburger and a small fry. Walked outside, handed it to the lady and she goes: "What is that?" It's a burger and fries...."Oh...I wanted a parfait, I don't want that"

Are you kidding me?
I had something similar happen. I was out to dinner and had a to-go box with like 4-5 slices of a supreme pizza in it. On my way to the car I got hit up for change so I gave the guy my food. He opened the box and said "what is this? I like meat lovers" and then proceeded to ask me again for money. Since then I've not offered up anything to someone on the street.

I've bought a homeless person a meal. I've given a homeless person a hooded sweatshirt and winter hat out of my car. But I do not give them money.

Living in Columbus a while back, I was getting gas. A guy came walking over from the liquor store next door. He asked me "Hey, do you have 90 cents to spare? I need to be able to catch a bus to the other side of the city and have no money on me." I asked if he was going to use it for alcohol, and he said no. I gave him 90 cents, and he walked straight back over to the liquor store.

Never again.

About a year or so ago, a Facebook friend of mine took a picture of the homeless guy that always stands outside our Wal-mart buying a 42" flat screen tv. They posted the picture and all the news outlets picked it up. Dude must be making good money still, because he hasn't stopped begging.

I sometimes give money, and if I do, I don't care what they spend it on. If a pack of smokes or a King Cobra is more important to them than eating, then so be it.

I think I already mentioned it here, but an expose of panhandlers showed some of the ones in NYC to be making upwards of $40,000 a year, tax-free. Some of them even have homes, cars, and amenities like televisions, stereo systems, etc.

So you might be helping him pay his mortgage. ;)

Went to Newport to see Gaelic Storm last night. The guy with the weed and beer sign was there. I walked right by him.

Thanks for sharing that ... I admit, that "bum" brought a lot of chuckles: RIP ... and "Help is on the way!"
