There was a "homeless" guy near my old job. I used to think he was homeless until I saw him at a bunch of other locations and one time with his white ipod head phones. This guy walked around with a boot and used the scam of "i lost my job and just got out of the hospital and now i have lots of medical bills to pay."

I called him out on it once and he shut the fuck up whenever i saw him after that.

First encounter with a "homeless" person was my second job out of college in downtown Cleveland. Walking down the street, this guy says "spare me $5" to which I said "what happened to spare me some change?"

Something was fishy about the guy so I said "no." He walked away, climbed into his new Cadillac and drove off. Some "homeless" people make a living off of panhandling then drive home to their families.

there was a guy right outside the courthouse a couple weeks back w a similar sign minus the hookers. i lol'd but didnt have any small bills on me.

normally if i have some spare change or a some ones i might give especially on days when i feel like i need to build my karma up. other days if im not in a good mood i can just as easily walk past w out feeling the least bit bad.

When I was a freshman on campus I used to give the homeless guys change because I didn't realize what a scam it is. Now I don't.

After a game one time a guy came up to me begging for just enough money to buy gas to get home. I gave him $2 and got in my car but noticed he was still begging from other people so I went back and asked him what was up. He said he needed enough to buy a gas can to put the gas in his car, so I let him borrow mine. I drove him to the gas station and he put a $1 in the gas can and said that would be enough to get him back to station to put the rest in. I drove him back to his car, he put $1 worth of gas in and said thanks. I then followed his POS car to the gas station and he pulled up to the tank and drove right through and kept going. Fucking dick. At least he left the area and wasn't bugging more people for money.

Another time I was at a gas station and a kid (looked like he might have been 16 or 17) came up to me begging for money for enough gas to get home. I remembered the **** sucker from the story above and didn't give him shit. When I left he was sitting on the curb crying and then I felt like an ass.

That gas scam happens a lot at gas stations. Feel bad for the second kid but after you got burnt once you're not going to stick your hand back on a hot stovetop a second time.

i see more and more people run out of gas the last few years ever since the price jumped over 3.50 seems like people are taking more chances with the fuel light

Is the "Help is On the Way" guy still hanging around the OSU campus? When my old ass was there in the mid-to-late 90s, he would always rock sweet rhymes and I would give him money, even though I knew the d-bag drove a nicer car than I did.

My wife had a good dialog with a homeless man it goes as follows:

"Do you have any spare change?"
(She looks in purse) "Sorry, I only have $20s"

and then walks away.

I don't see many, so when I do, it's always a judgement call. Last time I gave was around September. Got off of 70 into Zanesville. There was a guy standing at the exit ramp light with his 7-8 year old daughter. His sign was asking for food or shelter in exchange for labor. Scam? Maybe. Could have been trying to use the kid for more money. I don't know. I wasn't going to chance it though, plus his sign wasn't asking directly for money. I ended up giving him the cash I had on me. Like $25 or so.

I don't really know where any shelters are, and I am assuming they are out of walking distance. It is just much easier to place the shoes at the spot. The shoes are normally gone within a few hours.

I was more generous when I first moved to Chicago a few years ago. But over time, I've gotten annoyed with the countless requests for money and food. I distinctly remember a lady refusing free food from me. Mind you this was outside a McDonald's, and she was asking for money for food:

Lady: "Sir, can you spare some change so I can get something to eat?

Me: "I don't have any change, I'm sorry (I didn't...I had a debit card)." So I went inside the McD's, bought my lunch, and then bought an extra cheeseburger and a small fry. Walked outside, handed it to the lady and she goes: "What is that?" It's a burger and fries...."Oh...I wanted a parfait, I don't want that"

Are you kidding me? I was literally offended. lol. Since then, I sparingly give. I'd rather donate to charity or buy a meal for a kid. I gave a guy $20 so he could buy his daughter a coat. I have no clue if they were scamming me, but he had a little girl outside in a stroller in windy Chicago with a small jacket. There's no way in good conscience that I could've left that little kid like that. I watched them walk into Sears on State street, hopefully he actually bought a dang coat.
