One of the biggest privileges I've ever had was when I was sending out updates at the state basketball tournament in 2010 & a guy said I was keeping him updated as he was in Iraq serving our country. He's fighting for our freedom but wanted to know how his alma mater was doing. Talk about humbling....
That is an amazing story, it also tells me how once you grew up in this town you bleed Rider Red.... I remember when I was at Kentucky finding someone in the dorms that had TV with good enough cable that I could watch the state finals in Basketball! When your in Kentucky and you confiscate a TV in someone elses room to watch your alma mater! I became popular real quick!

Again thanks!

RR1, excellent job! Well, I'm not going to be able to make it back for the Wooster opener tomorrow against Highland...but will be attending my new hometown's (Avon Lake) game at Avon tonight. Looking forward to it!

This is the best time of the year! Football season is here and just over 24 hours from now the Red Riders will be back on the field! So anxious for football that I will be heading to Massillon tonight to get my fix.

Good Luck to all teams across the state on a great 2013 season!

Well, after 40 pages and a whole off-season of speculation the season is upon us.

I will listen to my team tonight and post a few scores.

Good luck in your game tomorrow.

It's great that high school football is finally back !!!!

Thanks for the good reading material RR1. Two things really stood out to me. The first is that Orrville owns a 4-0-1 against Kent State. I wondered when we played against Kent State, but after some yahoo-ing (I don't google), I found out that there was a private high school on the Kent State Campus from 1913 until closing in 1972. It was called Kent State University School. Never knew that, and both my wife and I went to KSU. The second is of our 21 playoff losses, 9 came by the way of the eventual state champion. So 43% of Orrvilles playoff losses were to State Champs. Not too shabby.

Good info on the Kent St. thing...without looking at my records, I'm guessing those games were long ago.

I had a win over Massillon back in 1915, but that just didn't sound right so i looked it up and sure enough, it was a scrimmage that we beat them (they probably brought their 4th team kids over here). So that's why we backed up from 597 wins to 596.

And yes, it sure is interesting to see how many teams beat us and then went on to win state. I know the win over us by Norwayne propelled them down the trail...much the same as when we beat Ursuline in 1998...when you clear that 1 big hurdle, it gives kids so much confidence.

Good lord I feel like I'm gonna pee!!!!!!!!!!!!! That smell in the air, that buzzzzzzzzz... That feeling of dominance when you send an opponent limping back to the huddle and you remind him "Imma be here ALL night brother so buckle up"!!!! Check your skirts at the door.... hot dang its here! Friday nights fellas!! First official football weekend. Go Riders, get there first and with bad intensions. Play your butts off and the rest will take care of itself!

Godspeed boys! For those of you that have my cell, please keep me posted! I will be at Wadsworth watching my nephew start at middle LB!!!

Very solid win tonight. Even though JM was clearly over-matched by us, our players still executed very well...including some very young players. Lots of smiles on faces of the players in the parking lot and minimal injuries. This was a good way to get some momentum rolling for Triway and Northwest.

Everyone played well. Some real big hits and not a lot of penalties. Overall I would say they looked prepared and they played with intensity. Really good to see. Maybe some of these young kids can advance enough to play at a level beyond their years. We will learn more next week.

Agree 100%. JM never quit. They had a uniformed security guard on their sideline...per rule of Cleveland Schools. Those kids played hard and respectful. They had virtually no support....and that's so sad. Couldn't help but think what kinds of homes & neighborhoods those kids will go back to. God Bless those that choose to be involved in their lives through coaching.

Only injuries I noticed were to the Hershberger kid (thought I heard broken wrist) and Domer (shoulder, but it popped back in on the sideline). No "stupid" penalties (offsides, false starts) and only 1 personal foul that was questionable.

We had 5 different kids score our 6 TD's. Looks played within himself and tonight was just an overall big confidence booster for our kids, and fans too. We needed this win.

Would like to see us continue to develop the passing game....gotta think we'll add a few pages to the playbook for this week.

Nothing would be better than to go to the 'Artificial Pit' and win...then the paper can trot out a "Riders of the Turf" headline.

Good post-cant help but to feel bad for those kids on the the other end. 25 or so boys that put the work in only to never experience what true high school football is all about. They had zero support and that is sad.

As far as Orrville they looked more aggressive and they swarmed on defense. Quick to the ball and some great fundamental tackling. Too early to tell how the season will go but I saw a big difference from last year. Put in the work this week and get ready for the Titans! Go Riders!!

Interesting the two injuries came from two promising freshman. I hope both can get back quick because they look to be players.

I hope the formula hold for us this week. The 6 previous times Triway has beaten us, we've come back the following year to thump them. Average margin of victory is 33 points.

They've never beaten us 2 years in a row.

West Holmes ran for 520 yds on them, on 70 carries. We're not West Holmes, but we've got a few kids that can run the ball.

The surprising number from Triway was that Carmichael was INT'd 4 times (two of those INT's were by a West Holmes freshman). That's unlike him. Maybe something to do with having a lot of new targets to throw to.

I'm sure they'll be well prepared for us, and I can only hope there's something extra in our kids preparation this week.

It's only week 2, but this is a real swing game. As much as the kids needed last week, they need a W this week just as bad.

I heard from someone on our staff that Triway refused to give us game film of the West Holmes game, offering only the film of their 2 scrimmages. Probably tried to sneak in a film of the "Triway Follies" stage show.

We need to run the ball until they stop us! Don't put the game in the hands of a young QB, not this early! Triway clearly has issues stopping the run and we need to exploit that weakness just like West Holmes did. On a positive note I know it was only week one but did you see we earned 6 points by beating John Marshall? Not bad! Check out Joe Eitel's site!

Yep. And I bet they win a few games too. Could get us a net of 2-3 computer points by week 10.

Hearing news that Scout passed away today. If true very sad news.
