People currently seeking jobs are able to get those prime seats for the free candy & therefore is unfair and the parade should be ended due to that unfairness.

I'll start the petition to end the long standing tradition & threaten to sue if it is not ended.

If we want to get the word out about the levy we should tell people there's a free candy giveaway at the high school...that would sure bring em out. I've seen it with my own eyes at the downtown holiday event & the bunny trail at the school. People will walk through hell if there's something free on the other side of it...especially candy.

I don't think the Levy will pass anytime soon. Two 60/40 votes against tells me people can't afford it. Whether we like it or not, school funding as we know it is gone forever, high paying jobs in town are in decline and prices of everything from gas to food are still on the rise.

I feel it is useless and counterproductive to blame any certain demographic of our society, black or white, rich or poor, doctor or factory worker, times are tough and alot of people are struggling across all demographics.

Our schools are probably going to have to do more with less.

They are doing more with less & will continue to do so....but at some point they will need an infusion of new money simply to keep the status quo.

If the middle class is declining, and it is, then that should tell you that to a degree, people are earning less money. I made that "free candy" comment in jest as I realize your view of the "poor" seems very condescending. I am also well aware that verily all men, including the wealthy, like "free" also, as it is so evident since you are obviously at many of these "free candy" events yourself! But take note...many will come and take your candy, and still, VOTE NO TO THE LEVY!!!

You can start the petition, but yours and maybe a couple of your "buds" on here will more likely than not be the only signatures on it. The long standing "lost" tradition that you hint at wouldn't be supported by the schools most generous private funding source, so you may as well let that nonsense go!

Playing demographic blame games only divide, they never unite.

None of us has the answers to our funding problems (at least I don't) I'm not going to engage in a counterproductive battle of words with you. We clearly have different opinions.

With all this being said..... I STILL LIKE CANDY! I remember Jimmy "juice" managed to mysteriously come with with the Oak Street school lunch money out of the cash drawer? He almost closed out the bait shop! We had penny bubble gum and snicker bars for DAYS!!!! I still laugh thinking about her taking all that money!!!! Jimmy was so proud!!!

And eating tile plant fish is why my immune system is bullet proof!!!

BUT on a serious note, I am saddened by the problems facing the Ville and many towns like it throughout Ohio. I guess I want my little town to stay the gem it always seemed to be to me as a youngster. It will be interesting to see how these debates and "spirited" discussion will or will not influence this years football team. I guess on a football thread that will be a legitimate trend to watch as the summer progresses.

I'm not The Wizard, I do however agree with his conversation, especially post #304.

Many people have lost jobs and their livelihood, for some, it's difficult to recover from that. It doesn't necessarily equate to "they don't want to work".

I can't speak for "Wizard", however, no, I'm not poor, nor am I wealthy, my wife and I need to work to maintain the little we have and to prepare for retirement. We support the community by paying our taxes, and buying here! Am I against the levy...let's just say with the ever increasing cost of fuel, energy food, etc, etc, I don't need nor want any additional taxes and my property taxes are high enough, which through my property taxes, I pay plenty to support the schools.

I've also experienced layoffs and downsizing, I've had my workload doubled because of it without any increase in pay. I gathered myself together, performed my job without complaint and thanking God that I still had employment. So, maybe some teachers will have to deal with that. I'm told that "adversity builds character"!

It seems to me that some of the teachers that stepped down had retirement as an option and people like brf are more likely than not doing just as well or better financially in retirement. At least they have an income!

He is average and will be a soph. Does not give us near the run option that Bryce would have. I don't know why or what triggered the Short family's decision to move, so I have no comment. I certainly thought he was our BEST option at QB last year and should have saw more time earlier in the season. So if that is the reason he is leaving for McK...then I guess Donald is doing what any father should do...and that is look out for your kids and make decisions that will put them in a better situation to succeed as a student/athlete. I think he will have a tough time at McK, but then again maybe he will play bball only???I would agree with your last statement and expand by saying I think there are kids and parents thinking about injuries/concussions and that too has contributed to low numbers from jr.high on up.

Thank god that McK has a weight room...I sure wish Orrville did! Short got a fair shot at QB last year and he was not very good. If he is "a running QB" he would not have made it through a single game without getting hurt. I wish him luck at McK because he will need it to see any time.

You act like the teachers have not been going through the downsizing and more work load. It has been going on for years in order to try and keep from going to the tax payer for more money.

The tired old stereotype that they get "3 months off" in the summer & work from 8am to 3:30pm every day (never nights or weekends)....and have aides do all their work while they gossip in the lounge. All the while collecting fat pay & Cadillac benefits.

People see teachers as a group who have had it pretty good and are using this vote as a way to knock them down a peg because they're "successful."

losing their dignity , come on that's a little tough .I've seen children from all types of families regardless of income enjoying getting that free candy . you talk about tradition in Orrville . well that's a tradition, the free candy at the parade. I think the only people worried about them losing dignity is the parents. on a serious note I sure hope we get a win on our turf this year. RR1 are there any other teams that we play down this year .
