This part isn't advertised.

Between 1999 and 2008 I think I took a total of one month of vacation. One week of that was our honeymoon, and even then I had to keep my blackberry on.

That isn't happening again.
I can't disagree.

I allegedly receive 4 weeks of paid vacation every year but I'm lucky to get to take 2 of those weeks. And even then my company-paid iPhone is constantly with me...and they expect me to answer the emails, texts, etc.

However, I definitely take some vacation every year. It's a MUST for everyone to chillax and re-charge.

What really drove it home to me was when a partner in did a lot of work for (and was being groomed to replace when he retired) collapsed with brain cancer. He was given six months to live. And yet a few months later, on Christmas morning, he's emailing me with changes he needs to a pleading. Two college-aged kids, wife, etc that he won't see in a few months when he's dead, but Christmas morning he's working and expecting me to do the same. At some point, it's just not worth it.

I worked far, far more holidays and weekends than I ever took vacation days. On those rare occasions I bumped into people we used to be friends with, they'd ask what I was up to, and the only thing I could think of was work. No hobbies, no interests, nothing--Just work.

So I'm making a move so I can turn back into a real person.

Agreed, and congrats! At some point we need to recognize what is truly important. It is very late my time (nearly 1:00 a.m.) and I don't think I could ever be happier than tonight. I have my dog at the foot of couch, my wife on one side sleeping on my shoulder, my sister-in-law (who is more like our daughter) on the other side sleeping, and I'm watching James Bond in Casino Royale. Life is good, even if it is the other side of the world.

1 year 3 months and 21 days.

I hate it. I've had about 5-6 phone/regular interviews and not gotten anything better (yet).

I'd consider going back to school, but I hate that even more and it costs money.

Not to thread highjack, but where did you end up settling in Cbus? I remember you were researching areas.

I'm considering coming back, been looking at rent prices. So damn tempting.

Gahanna. I work in New Albany, so I bit the bullet and moved into an expensive-ish area. $769/mo + Utilities

Not too bad, Gahanna is nice. Gahanna Pizza is one of my favs in that area. Also a fan of Old Bag of Nails.

I've been browsing German and Victorian Village areas. I'm hoping to find employment then move, not the other way around.

Finding an apartment is easy in this neck of the woods. They're building them everywhere

6 months. I'm already making more money and getting more responsibility than I did in 18 months at my other job. It's a far more ethical job in my opinion, as well.
