How is that so hard for people to understand? Maybe the majority of people not being around players in a bowl environment is a reason for that, but disinterest is definitely a real thing.

Um. Well. pretty much all the bowl games are exhibition games with the exception of 1.

Is disinterest a real thing?
Sure it is.
But it isnt when you are in a BCS bowl game.

Having the month break and the holiday season can't help either. I'd hate to be a member of a coaching staff trying to keep a team focused and on-point for 4-5 weeks of nothing but practice and film study unless it's either the national championship game or there is some sort of special condition that would keep them naturally interested (beloved coach retiring, team's first bowl appearance in 50 years, etc.).

That's the thing I hate about the bowl season. You have teams playing one game a week for three months and completely change their routine/system for one game. People have spent a lot of time talking about whether having a one-week NFL playoff bye hurts a team performance-wise in comparison to their opponent, who had to win the previous week. So having two teams both coming off month-long "byes" just seems to be a blueprint for a lot of letdown performances.

The way the game started gave UL a boost. A tipped pass later got UL another int in the end zone when UF could have scored. Driskel also was too slow getting rid of the ball all year. Part of that is having lousy WRs. UF should have run more with Gilly. 9 carries is ridiculous, he should have had twice as many. Not sure why they didn't get the TE Reed involved. UF only avg'd 26 ppg all year. UF's secondary sucked eggs last night(except for Elam). There will be lots of field time for the WR & DB recruits coming in next year.

Oregon - KState tonight. I've not seen KSt at all. I'll take Oregon by 10. Kelly will then bail to the NFL before the NCAA penalties hit the Ducks.

Which was on muschamp. Why the hell do you come out throwing? UL got out rushed by every single opponent in conference. Why weren't you running the ball(which is fu's only real offensive strength).

Yeah..the month plus break really sucks but it does go both ways. Ya would think it would favor a coaching staff/team who is used to the layoff and playing in NYD+ games over the years as you should be able to reference back.

I will take a little different twist on the disinterest that lsschlep wants to bring up. Maybe it had more to do with the fact that they were not playing a traditionally powefull team and were heavily favored and most people expected it to be a blowout the other way. Plus they are coming from a conference not respected as much in football. I think it had more to do with Florida not taking their opponant seriously enough then being disinterested in the bowl game itself. If they were playing a team like maybe OSU, Michigan or someone they expected that would be a better opponant I bet they would be a bit more focused. There is that human nature dynamic in sports that could have come into play here.

Have see Kstate play a couple of times. I was pretty high on them until they laid an egg when they were number one. Klein is a pretty good QB and just dominated some lesser opponants, but I dont think they have enough to hang with the Ducks so I predict a ducks win going away.

BUT if Oregon does lose I will blame it on them being disinterested in playing for a coach who is rumored to be interviewing for a number of NFL jobs and may not be around after the game.

Because they outthought themselves! Sometimes coaches think way tooo much and go away from their bread and butter. You know the whole break they knew taht UL was going to focus on the running attack and come up some ways to shut it down so they figured they would switch it up.

Kinda like in baseball. Have a great FB pitcher and a so so breaking ball. Biggest pitch of the game and instead of going with your best, knowing that the hitter is expecting it, you go with your lesser pitch and get burnt whereas ya may have been better served to go with your best, with what got ya there, and just hope it is good enough to beat the other game even when ya know it is coming!

BUT to be devils advocate...if Florida comes out throwing, and drives down the field and scores and goes onto win the game the same people who were critical of what they did last night would be raving how they changed things up and took the opponant by surprise!

Thats the same thing I seen on the LSU message boards for the whole month before the game. The players didnt seem to care, the fans didnt care at all. They felt as if they got passed up by teams to play in bigger bowls even though LSU beat the other teams or was ranked higher. And I hear the players didnt care when it became game time.
I say its garbage. You can be mad all you want about the bowl game, but you gotta go out and play in what game you're given (and to help with recruiting). And of course when LSU lost, it was all on Miles. I think the team looked motivated out there. No need for excuses from LSU or Florida. They both lost, fare and square.

It doesn't affect the outcome of this season like a regular season game does, doesn't affect next season, it's a damn exhibition game. That's how I feel about all bowls except the championship game, which actually does affect the season's outcome.
You're kidding yourself if this doesn't affect next season. A large part of the polls are derived from the perception of conference strength. The Big East just beat an SEC #2 rather handily in their own backyard and it wasn't even close. We will be seeing less SEC teams ranked next year because of their piss poor performance in the bowl games and for that we are thankful.

You know that isn't true, because the SEC didn't dominate bowl season last year, yet they end up having what, 6 teams in the preseason top 15 this year? 2 of which lost bowl games the year before.

they have 16 starters returning. I saw Bridgewater play a couple times at Northwestern and I saw a ton of overall development last night.

I definitely agree with that, but maybe part of the reason they didn't take them seriously enough is because playing Louisville isn't enough to overcome to exhibition factor of the bowl game whereas, like you said, playing someone like Ohio State or Michigan would.

He's been playing like that pretty much this whole year. I've watched a few L'Ville games that I bet on, and came away overwhelmed by Bridgewater in the sense that he exceeded my expectations for him going into this year.

12 seconds. 6 points. The under was probably a bad call.
