No one is calling Nancy a saint here. She obviously had signs in front of her that Adam was probably a little crazy. But no way is she negligent for this evil. Typical Americans..blame everyone around the actual person at fault.

I'm going to disagree in part, this guy wasn't just a little crazy, he was a lot crazy as evidenced by the mother taking him out of school in one of the wealthiest neighborhoods in the U.S. This guy was severely mentally ill (if one calls it evil, I can see that position but I disagree with it), and the people in charge for his well-being fell short. I don't know if she coddled him, if she hid him, or whatever, what we all know is this guy was dangerous and this tragedy happened.

What I meant to say was there was no way of predicting the evil he was about to unleash. Yes, she could have realized he was mentally ill and capable of causing harm. But to say she didn't put him in prison and because she didn't, she allowed 20 kindergardeners to die, is just idiotic.

'Mentally ill' is a better term than 'evil', agree with you there. Although what he did was ​evil.

Don't know if it's true, but I heard she was supposedly checking him into an institution.

Perhaps a danger to himself, maybe his family. But not like there's a precedent for this that said any reasonable person could have remotely expected this.

Maybe I have just missed them, but does anyone have any factual examples of the "a lot crazy" and "evil" things Adam Lanza did that should have tipped off his mother? Being extremely shy and introverted and anti-social likely due to symptoms relating to his Aspergers do not count. Neither does liking a video game on Facebook or playing shoot 'em games. Any others?

I stand by the belief that Nancy Lanza could have had no indication that Adam Lanza was a violent threat if he never in fact displayed any of violent tendencies, which those close to the kid said he never did.

You can certainly fault her for not having her guns properly secured. She is probably like millions of Americans in that regard.

But let's not act like this kid was Ted Bundy or something and walking around the house carrying women's heads in his hands. He demonstrated absolutely no violent or "evil" behavior before the shootings, according to those close to the family. I will wait for somebody to respond to my post above. I will be happy to admit I am wrong if somebody actually does so.

The point is, SHE LIVED IN NEWTOWN FUCKING CONNECTICUT. She was never in any real danger of a home invasion. It's a wealthy suburb with 2 armed robberies this year. Having guns was a hobby, it wasn't some realistic means of protecting herself. And that's fine, except when your hobby allows your developmentally disabled, self-mutilating, pulled out of school, son access to high powered weaponry.

I will say, it's been interesting watching you people backtrack from calling her "a great parent" and chastising anyone blaming her for negligence, to now saying "well yeha, maybe she was negligent, but hindsight is 20/20!!!!"

Her ex-husband? The Wall Street banker that lived in New York and paid for her entire lifestyle? Yeah, I don't think she needed to worry about him coming in the night for her. High powered rifles aren't a necessity for many people, rich divorcees in suburban Connecticut most especially.

It was a hobby, and hobbies are great, as long as they don't put everyone else in danger. And when your hobby involves keeping guns within easy access of a mentally unstable person, a rational person might take up knitting, or rent a gun from the range when you want to shoot. Lots of easy solutions.

Again, show me the percentages of "mentally unstable" people committing mass murder and then explain to me why this should have been foreseeable. Personally I think this is nothing more than a case of a sociopath (which are always SO EASY to spot, after the fact) that happened to have mental issues.

I might guess she was more likely to be robbed, even in Newbury, and have her guns used in a crime than to have her son steal them or what happened. And then that's an entirely different issue.
