Sounds like the producers, dumb as they may be, thought it was okay at the time. Since it obviously didn't sit well, Parker is the scapegoat.
Or, Parker is lying, and they didn't know.

You don't run a show on live TV without producers knowing about the content. At the very least, they knew he was going to bring up the topic. How else would they know what to put at the bottom of the screen while Parker and Skip debated?

He's just the scapegoat, but I'm sure a producer got fired or suspended too. It was a dumb topic, no one (not even black viewers) care if RGIII is "black" enough.
