Old Mendon Union High school had an extremely small gym.

When the 3 point line was put in in the late 80's it was impossible to hit a 3 from the side as you would ahve to stand tip toe as I think there was 3 inches between end line and 3 point line.

Coldwater's old HS gym until 1990 I think was The Pit and it held 850 max packed house. It was funny..back in teh day a few teams would refuse to play there so we moved it to some "Bigger" gyms that now are the smallest in the area!

One of the smallest gym I every played in was the old old East Canton High School Gym

The basket where only 2 feet out from the wall, out of bounds line was six inches from the wall, there was a stage on one side where the coach and player sat on the stage and some fans behind on bleachers. The other side was seating however the first row there was a curb like step six inch from the out of bounds line. Taking the ball out from the side was from an aisle of one of the row of seating.</SPAN>

Delphos Jefferson still plays on a stage. Nice padded theatre seats , plus a few rows of bleachers on the other side on the stage. Built a new school-but still play in the old schools gym.

Fort Recovery's old gym was a "swimming pool" type with block wall on one side with theatre seats above that and a stage on the other side several feet above the playing floor. The end walls were right on the OOB lines. Same floor config as others mentioned-3 half court lines and 3-point line ended where it hit OOB. People in the theatre seats couldn't see the team benches as they were right against the wall that they were behind.

New Boston is in a league of its own down here in the southern part of the state. They just finished playing there last season. Back in the early 2000's (around 04-06) New Boston had a pretty athletic team that pressed and just flew around. I think they hung 100+ about 8 times and I believe they averaged almost 90 a game.

A couple of seasons ago, a ref doing a girls game got so pissed with the crowd that he threw the entire gym out. New Boston played a conference game with just the teams, coaches, officials, scorekeepers, and a police officer. Crazy.

The old Hubbard High School (Youngstown area) gym. Prior to 1970.

Stage on one end, Half Wall with steel railings at the other....sometimes covered by a mat, sometimes not.

The best "trapping " so far........the home team's locker room was in the basement. They entered the gym by coming up a set of 10-12 concrete steps that led right up to the out of bounds area on the side court. No guard, gate, anything. During play, one could (and) did go azzholes over tea kettles right down the steps. BTW, Everyone was a lot tougher back in those days.

Steubenville Catholic Central's gym is very small..only a few rows high on one side.

The ironic thing is that prior to that they played in St Johns Arena which could seat up to 6,000.

Probably quite a few of the rural schools in Western Ohio have small gyms. I know Milton Union has gotten a new school but their old gym seemed small.
The gym sucks if pillars are in the way


Plus you know the school is messed up if the cafeteria is in the basement under the gym.

Why add the "s"?

Many people do that with other names also. It's somethings that stands out to me because I don't understand it.

Must be a Pittsburgh area thing, because we say "Krogers", "Giant Eagles", "JC Pennys" etc...

I suppose we say "St. John's Arena" to show possession...the Arena belongs to Saint John.

Got it...but the arena doesn't really belong to him. It's named after him.;)

I've heard the Krogers, Fords and Walmarts ones before.

Well, whatever it's called, I wish it was still open..it was a great setting for tournament games. Now all games are at OUE in St Clairsville, which to me isn't that great of a place for tournament action.

Ashland Middle School....still plays on a stage in the auditorium. POS!!

Northwestern High School (wayne county)...their old gym was much like what has been described above. Very small!

The Pit...Triway High School....POS!! Terrible place to watch a game. Can't see the corners or the nearest sideline to the bleachers you are sitting in. Floor is sunk-in below the level of the bleachers @ 6 feet.

Very few on here will know them, but Malta, Pennsville, Chesterhill, Deavertown, and Homer Union all had TINY gymnasiums. I played youth basketball in all of them...I've never seen a lower ceiling than what Pennsville used to have.

Pennsville has been torn down. I believe Chesterhill too. Not sure about Homer Union. But, Deavertown still stands.

We had an elementary basketball tournament at Minford and it had a carpeted gymnasium in the elementary school. I kind of liked it.

Step son plays youth football on a carpeted floor....not bad until they fall/dive and then get rug burns!

Played youth hoops in a small gym that doubled as the cafeteria and the tables/seats were folded up into the wall. One must have have been locked in well because a ball hit it and the table started to come out and almost hit someone!

Homer Union is 15 minutes from My house

I dropped 20 in a fifth grade game at Chesterhill.
Cool story bro.

Played on stages at Wellston and in Nelsonville.

Southern Racine's gym sucked but that was mainly because of the drunken idiots in the front row.

I also played in a gym in Bremen that had red tile floor with chunks out of it.

Ok....hadn't heard of the others but Chesterhill rang a bell as we always went through there on our way to our relatives campsite on the Muskingum River near Stockport
