Watch the game tonight and just watching how smart Peyton is at QB and I got to thinking of the smartest athletes of their sport.

What athletes are the most difficult to trick or out-think?

I put Greg Maddux on the same level as Manning.

NBA? Bird

Who are some of the upper echelon athletes in smarts for their sport?

I would say Nash....but his defense is so bad...you'd think he'd be more able to know where the offense is going.

Battier?

Has one good year, now is making a guaranteed $40 million as a bum. Gotta give him some credit. :D

I read that in SN or something when they were discussing a similar topic. :o

Peyton Hillis. Goes from the Browns being the guy, to the Chiefs, doubling his salary and becoming the #3 back. Genius.

Randy Couture. One of the best game planners there was.

I'd also say Frank Lampard. Dude has amazing field vision and has so many first touch passes that are put exactly where they need to go.

On that note, Id nominate Xavi Hernandez as well. Lampard is a good pick.

Varejao has a ridiculous basketball IQ. Not mentioning him in same league as others above, just saying.

3 white guys picked as the "most intelligent" in 3 sports are dominated by minorities. What a racist.

Dan Marino. He was Peyton Manning before Peyton Manning. And had he had perhaps a few better skill players around him, Marino would have had multiple Super Bowls and be considered the greatest of all time. Even though I think he's the best natural quarterback who ever lived even without one. The fake spike against the Jets is one of the great plays ever. But that was just a glimpse into Marino's genius on the football field. He is a legend.
