Meyer didnt turn them in and this also happens ALL THE TIME. Its part of a compliance department...

I have a close friend who works in the compliance office. Says these things happen constantly. Other schools turn osu in and vice versa all the time. It's not necessarily to get each other in trouble but to work together to report all secondary violations.

I see Meyer's taking flack about Aaron Hernandez. For me, a coach or teacher or even a parent is not responsible for the actions of an adult unless they helped in the actual doing of the actions, which Meyer obviously did not. However I don't feel sorry for Meyer having to deal with this. When coaches get multi million dollar salaries, can come and go as they please, etc, they are going to attract hyper media attention. Hernandez sounds like a very troubled person even during his time at Florida. Tat's what it takes to succeed in today's college football world - recruiting kids who the parent institution would have under no other circumstances were they not there to play football.

Do you buckeye fans still feel Meyer is a snake, or an idiot, or recruits thugs? Or because he's OSU's coach, he's a different guy?
In the New York Times, they did a story on the Meyer Era at UF, and they said 41 players from the 2008 championship team have been arrested. Is that carrying over at OSU or is he doing things totally different?

Well, as long as the Urb Man manufacturers B1G championships, wins over Michigan, and a national championship or two methinks most Buckeye fans will gladly ignore SEC-style thuggery in Columbus. It's not a matter of how it gets done just as long as it gets done. ;)

As tongue-in-cheek as this statement is, you are correct....as far as some fans are concerned. I, for one, will not ignore it--but that's just me.

Buckeye fans used to rip Meyer when he was at Florida, no denying that. Are you forgetting this is the same group that still loves Tressel even after all the crap he allowed and lied about? Now Meyer is loved by Buckeyes fans. Don't know why a few guys are upset about your post.

I would say most of the responses to CGW were pretty civil.

I think a lot of people know the "my guy" reaction in sports. Fans will defend their guy (coach or player) for their actions if they are a member of their organization. There is a reason we are called fans, we're fanatics. Most fans are delusional or at least somewhat biased about their own team. I don't fault any person for being biased when it comes to how they view their players, coaches, etc.

I don't think we'll see Meyer make the same mistakes he made at Florida regarding discipline, like letting someone toting around an AK-47 back on the team. However, if something like that does happen, I will question his decision, just like I did when he was at Florida. Also, I don't think he'll have to recruit the "thugs" he recruited at Florida, because it is easier to recruit kids to Ohio State.

The higher you pay coaches, the more you should expect a certain amount of looking the other way when trouble comes. This doesn't apply uniformally, but it is human nature to protect earnings and the higher they are, the more they're defended.

I was one of the very very few who did not want Urban coming to Cols. But I've changed my attitude and its not just because he went undefeated last season. I've got some personal contacts with players on the team and they all praise the changes in expectations and commitment to team and University. Tressel it turns out was one of the nation's biggest frauds to ever come down the pike. Urbie has made some significant improvements and I believe will continue to so. However, 18 - 22 yrs olds are basically knuckleheads and some are going to be bigger idiots than others, Meyer will have to remain very vigilant of the ones like Hernandez who may have a more sinister selfishness that can briong a progeram down.

I agree with you. My point was that the higher coaches are paid, the more they'll be scrutinized - fairly or unfairly. In the case of Meyer and Hernandez, I'd say unfairly.
