Have you looked at buying a used gun or are you wanting to go new? Gunbroker.com has plenty to choose from and there are thousands of groups on facebook of people selling guns. I can give you some of the facebook groups if you want to browse them. Gunbroker you will need to talk to a gun shop to make sure they will allow you to have a gun sent to them. They usually charge 20-30 to use their ffl.justincredible;1426650 wrote:I put in a special order (with a 25% deposit) on an sr9c back on Feb 8th. The guys said it would probably take 2 weeks to get in. Fast forward to this weekend and it still wasn't in more than 2 months later so I went in to the shop and cancelled the order. Now I am trying to figure out if I want to stick with finding an sr9c or if I should go with something else. The shops around here seem to be pretty low on stock across the board and unfortunately none of the guns I seem to be interested are in stock anywhere to handle to see if I like the size/weight.

Yeah, I've been on gunbroker and have the Guns for Sale facebook page on my guns interest list. Any other facebook groups? I'd probably prefer buying new, at least for my first one, but wouldn't be opposed to buying used eventually.mcburg93;1426753 wrote:Have you looked at buying a used gun or are you wanting to go new? How much experience do you have with shooting .40? I personally hate the round, the ballistics are not much different between the .40 and the 9mm, but the .40 you are throwing a bigger projectile down range, but at the cost of much more recoil. For self defense, the wound cavities created by a nice expanding 124gr hydra-shock or cor-bon will be more than sufficient.justincredible;1427341 wrote:I like the 26 or the 27.
The problem with Hickock videos is that he is a police officer, giving him a bias towards the .40, as it was created as a round for law enforcement, with many discounted contracts to agencies basically creating the early market for the round. When it was created, officers basically had the choice between a .357/.38 revolver or a .45 1911. The introduction of the .40 gave them an inbetween semi auto that didn't need cleaned constantly that held more than 6 rounds.

I have no experience with .40 rounds. I've shot 9mm, .357, and .22.

What are your intended uses? Solely for carry? Plinking and carry? Solely for plinking?justincredible;1427415 wrote:I have no experience with .40 rounds. I've shot 9mm, .357, and .22.

You could learn to handle the .40 with practice if you are really interested in it for some reason, but you would probably be more comfortable with the 9 off the bat.justincredible;1427432 wrote:Carry, mostly.

What's a non-issue? You have a G27? I've owned one, as well as a fullsize G22 and a M&P .40WebFire;1427579 wrote:I have a .40 and it's a non-issue.
Hated them all. Like I said, the ballistics on the .40cal suck and the recoil on the G27 was not fun. The G26 and my Kel Tec p11 are much better defense guns. Easier to handle, easier to become proficient with, and modern 9mm rounds provide more than enough expansion and energy. If I wanted something in the Glock Sub Compact that packed more punch but is super easy to handle, I would get a G33 (.357 sig) It's throwing a 115-124g bullet (basically a 9mm weight projectile) at better ballistics.

Ummm, all the anti-things you say about the .40.LJ;1427587 wrote:What's a non-issue?
.40 is slightly snappier, as you would expect. But recoil is manageable. It's IS a nice compromise between .45 and 9mm. Does it make it the best? There is no such thing. To each his own.
I agree with you that 9mm is just fine. I just wouldn't swear someone off a .40 for the reasons you stated. I am quite happy with mine.

I'd say the .357 Sig is a nice compromise. Imo its a worthless round just like the 10mm is. LE contracts keep the round relevant.
