What is the process of the background check if you buy from a dealer or someplace like Gander Mntn? Do you pick out/order the firearm and then have to come back later to buy it after they check your background?

First time gun own should by new, take the rish out of additional problem of a used weapon. Gunsmith are not cheap and buying a problem is not what a new user needs.

Unless I’m looking for something special, rare, vintage or just want to look and waste time I find gun shows a rip off many times.
Thanks for the info. I never looked at it that way. I figured when I was ready to buy a gun, I'd head to a gun show to get a deal. Sounds like I'll have to rethink that approach.

No. You pick it out, fill out the necessary paperwork, and they run the check. It's pretty quick. Last gun I bought, I was in and out (this included browse time) on my lunch break.

I am looking for a 9mm or .40 cal in the $300 range (im poor). Any suggestions on what to get or where to look? Going to a gun show in Akron this weekend.
Vance Outdoors in Columbus has the Smith & Wesson SD VE 40 cal on sale this month for $279, That good gun at that price

I ended up stopping in to Buckeye Outdoors and found that my cousin works there. Didn't get a chance to talk to him because the gun counters were swamped.

I found a new range/gun shop about 10 minutes from my office. Stopped in the weekend and the staff was great and the guns were reasonably priced. I'll be testing out some guns over the next week or two.

9mm ammo is a little cheaper. I like my 40, but if doing it again I might get the 9 just for this reason alone.

I've often times thought about buying a pistol, but I could see myself buying it and never using it, thus it would be a waste of $xxx.xx that I could use on something practical.

This is my reasoning for checking out the SR9c.

March is the last I've heard. The outside is finished (not as big as I thought it was going to be) but it's in a great location right off of Gemini near the 71 exit

Place like GM or Kames can do a background check on the spot and you can walk out with in 10 minutes.
Rule is however who ever pays for the weapon is the one who is getting the background check..

Few weeks ago I bought the wife a SIG P238 shoots what is called a (short 9mm) nice weapon, small, lopeartes like mini P220 .45 she loved it. I shot it and loved it also Great CCW carry weapon. I carry a Sig P220 .45 big and heavy but I like the Sig P238 I went out and bought myself one and have been carrying it. I only 6 round mag but for a light weigh quick carry and behind the belt waist carry can hardly be seen.

Hell of a deal. Where'd you get it? I think that is the gun my brother-in-law wants.
