Looks like the Big East is getting no special treatment in the new playoff format. The NCAA might have made a correct move for once.

I like the set-up because it opens the door to the other mid-major conference champions for an elite-level bowl.

Granted the Big East would likely get the nod, but a particularly outstanding team from the MWC, C-USA, MAC, or Sun Belt could also be recognized.

But to your point, yes it does appear as though the Big East has been "demoted."

Once WVU left it became a mid major. Before that it was D2.

Really sucks for Boise, though. They left to get that "auto-bid". Now they are in the same position as before, now they just have to travel clear across the country.

There should be 4 conference bids (5 if the ACC gets their act together) and the rest of the teams should all be equals, with a chance to play in the 4-team playoff if their resume warrants it.

I currently view them as a mid-major. Seems about right.

The New Big East is still better than the ACC. The Big East is basically getting an autobid from this decision. They will have the top ranked team every year. The ACC added Syracuse and Pitt... Neither team has done anything in the Big East. Pitt has 2 Shared big east titles in the 21 years they've been members (zero outright). Syracuse has ONE winning record in the last decade. Say what you want about losing West Virginia, but I'll take Boise State over West Virginia any day. At the end of the Day the Big East at worst maintained the same level of talent as it has had in the last several years while the ACC watered its talent pool down. Since the First ACC raid the Big East has out performed the ACC in every category, (BCS wins, Ranked teams, average rank of team, etc. etc.) I see no reason that won't continue.

Someone posted it last year and I'm too lazy to go find it but Boise wont be traveling much more than they are now.

Yeah, Boise made trips to Michigan State (1900 miles), Southern Mississippi (2130 miles), New Mexico (940 miles), Wyoming (686 miles), Nevada (423 miles) and Hawaii. Given where Idaho is, it's really not that big of a deal...

It was more of a statement rather than be making a deal of it. My "deal" was that all in all, after all of the success they have had, Boise made a lateral move in the end.

Disagree. It is a big move for Boise for several reasons:

1) Money. The MWC Television Contract only pays $1M/team. The Big Eat is in the process of signging a new deal that is estimated to pay 5-10X that amount. Even if the Big East contract remains at their current level it will be 4X the MWC deal.
2) Exposure. The Big East gets much more national exposure than the MWC. Other than Boise, how many MWC have you ever seen televised on a regular basis? Big East is currently negotiating with the ESPN, NBC, FOX, Turner among others.
3) Bowl Games. Big East has tie-ins to much more attractive bowl games that match them against teams from better conferences. The BE Bowl Games also have a higher payout.
4) The MWC today is not the MWC of old. No Boise, No Utah, No BYU, No TCU and no San Diego State. New members include San Jose State and Utah State.

I agree. Is it as much of a forward move if the Big East doesn't have an AQ bid? No. Is it still better than what they have right now? Yes.
