Any new news? Did we lose any players to Mooney Or Ursuline? How many have been in the workout room so far since schools been out... I'm looking forward to seeing this team perform under a new offensive coordinator. I like stability. Zetts was good for what he did. He would win the big one. But his offence changed every game. Thats hard on high school kids. I remember there was no trick plays but once or twice a season under Rozum. It was run you over or until you got exhausted.

Just heard that campbell is going to struggle with receiving and QB. I was under the impression that campbell had a very capable qb and a few good if not stellar receiving core

Hate to say this but you shouldn't expect much this season... Too inexperienced. I heard they were going to start that frosh that went to mooney at qb if he stayed

I'm not sure! But there is experience. More than a few Juniors started last year. We lost size. I'm not sure If Dom Thomas will start or not. But his dad played on the 89 team. Big strong boy. And Qb like i said thought was decent. But i expect a lot more running the ball then airing it out. Will see. But i'm not counting them out of a decent season. But if its more the same i'm gonna be disappointed.

The 2013 enrollment numbers are out. Campbell is again D-5, has 178 boys in grades 10-12, which is just 22 boys above the cut off point for D-6. By comparison, Struthers has 251 boys for this year, which is 1 more than Steubenville Big Red and 20 more than Cardinal Mooney. Ursuline has 158 boys this year, just two over the cut off point for D-6. Here is the list of opponents for Campbell this season and their respective division.

Struthers D-4

South Range D-6

Brookfield D-6

Jefferson Area D-4

LaBrae D-5

Liberty D-5

Champion D-5

Lakeview D-4

Newton Falls D-6

Girard D-5

Here are the 2013 enrollment numbers for the AAC-Blue tier schools:

Girard 203, Champion 183, Campbell Memorial 178, LaBrae 177, Liberty 168, Newton Falls 145. Boardman, Youngstown East, Warren G. Harding, Ashtabula Edgewood, and Brookfield will join the AAC in the spring of 2014. Pymatuning Valley was extended an invitation to join the AAC but turned the invitation down. Steubenville Big Red and Massillon Washington applied to join the AAC for football only. They will be considered for future expansion.

Let's just hope that the meeting with the mediator solves the dispute. I believe there was a short strike during the 1989 season. Campbell had one of the better teams in the state during that season. And our head coach was teaching in the school system. Something was worked out because that season did not get interrupted. In 1993 there was a strike in the Youngstown City Schools, which caused the cancellation of the Campbell-Chaney game that year. If that game was played and had been won by Campbell, the Red Devils would have made the playoffs that season. They missed making the playoffs by a very, very small margin of computer points. That being said, I believe if there is a strike during the season this year, practices and games could be affected. But that's just my opinion.

Wasn't 1989 the year that they would hire scab teachers on Fridays so that school was officially open, and they could play?

First game of season will be ok because school wont be in session yet. After that I dont know. I know this outgoing super has basically made it his point to force the teachers to strike. So there will be a strike and there wont be an early settlement. Both sides are waiting for the other to flinch, and that often doesnt happen until school begins and the district realizes it doesnt have enough subs to keep the school up and running. I know recently in Ohio a school was on strike for 8 weeks. This is the new reality of the public school system, especially with funds being cut every chance by the state. I dont see a long strike, but a strike will happen. If it lingers into week 2 i dont know, but from what im hearing about the devils that might be a good thing. Also take this into consideration, although sikora is not a teacher under the CEA he is a teacher nonetheless...it would be in poor taste as a teacher to cross the picket line so to speak to coach the team in week 2 if this lingers.

Al bundy no scabs were called in. Not true. I know the real story but that's not it at all. School wasn't strictly opened for that Friday. I'm sure Wooster wishes that game wasn't played

omemorialhigh, I remember the Wooster game. Wooster had a running back named Andrew DeLoach who was a D-1 college prospect. But Shawn Patton stole the show by rushing for over 200 yards as the Red Devils beat Wooster handily. I believe DeLoach ended up with slightly over 100 yards. But 40 of them came on one play after the game was out of hand.

Sorry if I have the wrong year, but there was a strike at Campbell somewhere around the late 80's/early 90's where they would have school on Fridays so that they could play. I always thought that was a great way to not penalize the kids because of the greed of some of the teachers.

I believe their was a Campbell teacher's strike back in the early 1970's. The week one game vs. Howland that year was cancelled.
