Why the godaddy hate? I just checked Namecheap, and the domain I am looking at is more expensive on there than godaddy.

and no, the idea would not be a direct competitor to this site. I love this place. xoxo

I have some connections in an area that is a hotbed for high school football that I would like to utilize.

I've had domains repossessed without explanation (and literally "purchased" by them to seemingly take it off the market). They seem to have technical issues more often. Their account panel is not the most user friendly, so it might be particularly confusing if you haven't done something like this before.

All in all, they're just not a great service to deal with.

Plus, NameCheap offers privacy protection for free for the first year, which I like.

Thanks. Like I said, I know nothing about this stuff, so this explanation is really helpful.

Seriously, if you would like more help, just PM me with a little more information (or spill it here if you want, but I figured you'd want to keep a money-making idea somewhat discrete). I'm more than happy to share.

I purchased my domains through GoDaddy and manage them through BlueHost. It's worked out beautifully for me.

And as WebFire alluded to, what the site will be used for plays a huge part in where/how you host your site. Blog w/ articles? Find somewhere with free WordPress installation. Content management with forms, etc? Find somewhere with free Drupal or something similar. Database-drive? Find some place with free, customizable MySQL (or other platform) DB. Selling products? Find somewhere that provides easily-integrated shopping carts.

If you don't fold like a lawn chair, you'd probably realize that letter was just a scare tactic.

I also didn't fold like a lawn chair. I argued over the phone with their dumbass lawyer and contacted a local lawyer as well as took advice from a close friend that is a lawyer. I took their advice.

Pretty easy for you to talk tough when it's not your money in jeopardy.

At their lawyer? Many times. At one point it got pretty heated and I'm pretty sure I called him a son of a bitch.

You can be my hero, baby.

If it makes you feel better, I got my football coach to cancel their sponsorship on our site and he denies Frantz's requests for interviews.

Adsense them.

I used webs.com for our wrestling site.

Granted, as hasbeen will attest, it's a crappy website; about as crappy as our coaching. But I like it. Get's the job done.
