I have an idea for a website I want to create that would provide a nice side source of income.
I know absolutely nothing about this, so I am looking for any and all advice.
Some questions that come to mind are who is best to register the domain under and why, what type of server/software should I look at, what price am I looking at to pay somebody to build the site, what ad program should I use (adsense seems best), etc. I am sure there is other important information that I am not thinking of right now, so like I said, any and all advice is appreciated.
Thank you.

Had a response, but I figure I'll let the pros respond.
Get a Web Host that offers a free domain name.

Don't worry too much about the bells and whistles - you just need quality porhn and a good search feature.

If you use adsense, make sure you setup a separate google account and not your personal one. I've read horror stories.

Hard to answer your questions without any idea of what the website will be.

I wasn't even able to do that, I had to register it under a completely different email. What horror stories have you heard of?dlazz;1307806 wrote:If you use adsense, make sure you setup a separate google account and not your personal one. I've read horror stories.

The site could cost a few hundred bucks for a simple blog type site with a stock theme. It could cost well in to 6 figures if it's a really complex idea.

For domains I like name.com. I think they have some deals where you can get a free domain with hosting.

Just avoid GoDaddy at all costs. Name.com is fine, Namecheap.com is my preferred, plenty of others. I know some people really like bluehost.com.
Like others have said it's hard to give advice without having a better idea of what it is.

Yeah for domains there really isn't much to fuck up though. But then you add in that they do not have the best prices, have terrible business practices and distasteful advertising and I just don't want to give them my money when there's so many other companies to use.WebFire;1307853 wrote:Never had a problem with GoDaddy for domains, FWIW.

You're assuming he needs an eCommerce site. He doesn't.Belly35;1307918 wrote:Finding a good shopping cart Authorize.net and a Web software that you can apply pricing, photos and shipping eazy ...

PM me with more details. I may be able to help give you some direction.
As for domain registrars and hosting, I prefer NameCheap for domains (unless I'm registering ones with weird, international suffixes) and either LaceHost or BrainHost for hosting.
For what it's worth, freehuddle.com is taken.

Reps. Seriously though, I usually end up getting domains during the many times they offer $1.99 a year deals.O-Trap;1307938 wrote:PM me with more details. I may be able to help give you some direction.
