Same. Not a fan of Chapman moving to the rotation simply because I don't think he'll be as good as he could be as the closer pitching in almost every game.

If chapman turns out to be a good starter we could very well have one of the top 2 or 3 staffs in the league. If he doesn't pan out just put him back as the closer.

Chapman will be a great starter IF he's willing to throw that slider, and the occasional changeup. I have serious doubts about Broxton's ability to be a highly effective closer at this point.

Put him back as a closer and Broxton is an expensive 7th/8th inning guy.

I'm not 100% sure they signed Broxton to be solely in the closer role. He came out and said he will play any role the Reds want him to, which kind of shows there was no promise to be a closer.

Can never have enough arms. They still have Massett correct? He will be fresh after a year off with rehab. Competition for innings 7-8-9 is always good.

Sounds like the Reds and Rockies may be throwing around the idea of a deal involving Homer Bailey and Dexter Fowler. I'm a big Dexter Fowler fan, but definitely have my concerns over him hitting outside of Coors. He's a massive upgrade over Stubbs and given that he's not a free agent until after 2015, he'd be a much cheaper option than having to sign Bourn, Upton or trading for Span...

I'm more alarmed at his lack of SB despite his + speed.

I'm not worried about his hitting outside of Coors. He isn't a home run hitter.

But... Why not keep Bailey and just plug Hamilton into CF and bring him along slowly (i.e. hit him low in the order until he settles in)

Bailey and Latos are free agent after this year. Given the recent contracts to pitchers of their caliber, there's no way they sign both. Latos will cost in the 10-13M/yr range and Bailey in the 8-10M/yr range.

Why not keep him for the 1 yr? Who cares if you can't resign him? Dumb to trade somebody for a guy like Fowler, especially when you have a carbon copy like Hamilton waiting in the wings.

His value is really high right now...

The Reds also need TWO outfielders. They are thinking about paying Ludwick 7-8M a year. Would you rather have...

Fowler + Hamilton and save some money on Bailey and Ludwick to spend elsewhere?

Bailey + Ludwick and basically max out payroll capacity for the next 2 years (maybe longer with Bailey)?

I like Bailey. I'd love to see him sign long-term. With that said, now is the time to either sign him long-term, meaning you're committed to him steadily improving over the next 5 years or trade him, given that his value is high and he's coveted by other teams.

The WORST thing you can do is simply let him play out the year and walk...

I agree with you. Fowler isn't the ideal guy, but I do think the premise of needing to use Bailey as the chip to secure a quality OF, preferably one with a friendly contract, makes sense.

I've seen other people throw out combos of Leake, Stubbs and a prospect for someone. Bottom line, those first two guys have zero value. They are more valuable to the Reds right now because there is no cost to just hoping for a miracle that both become useful.
