Up 2-0 & lose 3 straight at home (first time all season) to get bounced from the playoffs...

What changes do you see being made? Dusty fired? Stubbs, Rolen gone? Any potential Free Agents the Reds should look at?

Discuss...

Free Agents
Scott Rolen - 100% gone
Ryan Madson - I can see them signing him to another 1-year deal, with incentives
Jonathan Broxton - Likely gone
Ryan Ludwick (mutual option, agreement on 5M/1 year), Reds will agree, Ludwick won't, likely gone
Miguel Cairo - 100% gone
Dioner Navarro - 100% gone

Arbitration Eligible
Mat Latos - I see him getting a long-term deal, before Bailey does
Wilson Valdez - Likely will be back
Bill Bray - Who knows
Homer Bailey - I can see the Reds trying to deal him or sign him long-term
Xavier Paul - Average chance of being back

I do think Stubbs, Bailey, Heisey and possibly a few others will be potential trade candidates.

He wants back, but they have to agree on that option. Not at 1-year, 5M, he'll decline his part. I've heard/read figures that he's going to be looking for anywhere from 2-3 years at 7-8M per year. I've seen 2 years/15M is what it likely takes for him to come back to Cincy, despite him being from the area.

If you're the Reds, you can't afford to pay him that with Latos and Bailey both nearing pay day. I definitely see them looking at Ludwick but there are plenty of other OF options out there as well.

Counting committed cash and projected figures if guys get arb. (and don't sign new deals), the Reds are already at 93M minus those 6 unrestricted free agents.

That's why I see Bailey being trade bait given his value skyrocketing the 2nd half of this year. Also, the team will pay Latos (and they should) over Bailey, but both don't get long-term deals. I can also see them maybe dealing Arroyo if someone would be willing to bite.

Ludwick earned himself some extra cash in this playoff round by playing as well as he did. Coming off a season of 26 homers and 80 RBI's with a solid playoff series he is going to be able to get more than the 1/$5 million dollar option deal on the open market.

I agree with whoever said it would likely be 2 years at about $15 million to retain him. For that they will probably let him walk as he is going to be 35 next year and I doubt he is able to repeat his output from this year.

They have too many other salary commitments to keep someone like him around for anymore than the price of the option year.

Well, that didn't take long.

JIM BOWDEN ‏@JimBowdenESPNxm Reds plan to turn 3B over to Todd Frazier in 2013 and Scott Rolen probably retiring after a long successful Gold Glove All Star career.

Not sure who this guy is...

@G_SKyserJr: It's early, but according to my sources within the #Reds organization, Dusty Baker will not be back as #Reds manager. His deal has expired

@mokey31: It's early, but according to my sources, Dusty Baker has killed himself, because he is a douchebag.

Don't want Bailey traded. Do want Stubbs traded for literally anything, anything in the world. I'm ok with letting Luddy go unless they can get him for the 5 mill. We're going to need a utility man to replace Cairo(should've been done long ago). Can't see Chapman starting unless he can master the slider, and build a lot of endurance. He had two stints this year where he needed extended rest for arm fatigue.

We need another starter. Make Chapman a starter and bring back Madson

Cueto
Latos
Chapman
Bailey
Arroyo

Best rotation top to bottom there.

* Deal Leake for whatever we can get?
* Billy Hamilton should be CF and hit lead off

Hamilton
Phillips
Votto
Ludwick
Bruce
Frazier
Hanigan
SS / Cozart

Hamilton, I'll almost guarantee doesn't see the field until July at the earliest.

One guy who is a FA and will be someone who can be had at a reasonable price is Angel Pagan. Gasp. After this damn series. However, he can play CF, will be somewhat reasonable in-terms of price and can hit at the top of the order.

Don't want to see them give Bray a deal. Just don't think he is worth the hassle with as much as he is hurt.

Chapman doesn't have enough pitches to be a starter.
Dusty will be back. 1 yr deal or they don't renew due to "health reasons"

I think that title belongs to Kimbrel, but Chapman is a close second. And I agree with you. I used to be in the Chapman for starter camp but not anymore.

I love Price and Speier, I do think Dusty is a great manager even with his flaws, but Jacoby is a turd.

Someone that would be more expensive but I've wanted them to get for a while now is Michael Bourn. Isn't his contract up with Atlanta?

Yeah Bourn's contract is up. He's a Boras guy but was bad the second half. Might not be as expensive as he would have been in June. Still too much for Atlanta.

wow.....just a note of sincere condolences from a long suffering Tribe fan here. I haven't been following the playoffs much this year (too painful after watching the Indians' massive collapse). Reds have always been my NL team...I really thought you guys had a shot:(.
