There's a reason he won best athlete in Texas, was an All-American at UT and considered pretty much one of, if not the best athletes in the MLB. It's why he was a top 10 draft pick.
Yet his whole career, even in college, the minors and now the majors, he's been plagued by these issues. How many guys have a 2.5:1 K to BB ratio for their minor league career and have a career minor league average of .268, yet are given the reigns as a full-time starter in CF anyway.
I think the Reds, like everyone before them, felt he would be able to improve on these qualities, but he never has. Still, a serviceable MLB player, I just can't see it changing. That's why all this hope from Cleveland fans that he's maybe another BP and needed a change of scenery, I don't buy it. There's real limitation present that I'm not sure even the best baseball minds, coaches, managers and experience can fix.
Yea, at some point, you are who you are. Stubbs just hasn't shown a lick of improvement since college really.
