Oh I comprehend it. Still a dumbass decision by Solich under the circumstances nonetheless.

I think any coach in that situation would have done what Solich did. Take one shot to win and if it doesn't work then kick the FG. I wasn't watching but what happened before the play? Solich should have reminded him of the situation if he had time.

I disagree with those bashing Solich. It's very easy to take this position in hindsight. You put a certain level of responsibility and faith on the QB. You can't take a sack there. It doesn't matter what else you have to do. You have to preserve, at minimum, the field goal try.

Guys....I'm not "bashing Solich". I get that in general 9 seconds to go with 1st and goal should give you one shot at the endzone.

But I watched the entire game. Tettleton wasn't really on his game the whole time. He was tentative and slow to release.

Ohio had no timeouts. Even the ESPN3 announcers said at 16 seconds with no timeouts they had 1 chance at the endzone. They actually has 2 at that point.

Still the wrong decision. When Tettleton ran the ball out of bounds at the 7 with 9 seconds Solich should have signaled to Tettleton and sent in the special teams to kick the FG. He didn't. Tettleton took the sack. Game over.

I'm not saying Tettleton didn't have any responsibility in knowing the circumstances. He did. But I sincerely believe Solich made a bad call.

Not bashing him. Just stating what I witnessed.

So the MAC is as good as the Big East.

Good for them.

I'll willingly bash Solich, but not for the final play. Frank had K Matt Weller lined up for a 56 yard field goal with the wind at his back (late 3rd quarter) before the previous play went into review. After the review, he sends the punting unit out. Matt can kick from that distance, but is just never given the chance.

You may be on to something. Conference re-alignment.

The New Big East:

Great Lakes Division
Atlantic Division
Bowling Green Akron
Cincinnati Marshall
Kent State Pitt
Louisville Rutgers
Ohio Syracuse
Miami of Ohio Temple
Toledo UConn
Ball State UMass

Interesting stat from the OU message board...

Ohio's last 3 losses:
23-20, Miami 10/27/12
23-20, Northern Illinois 12/2/11
23-20, Ball State 10/15/11

4 MAC teams receiving votes in the polls. Has that ever happened before?

Sadly, ALL could be unbeaten.

Northern Illinois loses to Iowa by 1. They blew that game after being up 17-9 in the 4th.
Toledo loses to Arizona by 7 in OT.
Ohio loses by 3 to Miami.
Kent State loses by 33 to Kentucky. I guarantee if they played again today, Kent would roll. This result is maybe the most baffling of the 2012 season.

I'm not sure about 4 receiving votes, but in 2003 the MAC had three teams ranked in the top-25 for one week (BG, Miami, Northern Illinois). Two of them ended up ranked at the end of the season (BG and Miami).

Definitely a good year for the MAC. Miami put an ass whopping on BG twice that year.
