i don't think we're likely to win more than 1-2 games this year. But give us a coach, get our 2 best guys on defense back, add one stud receiver, and a few other pieces here and there and we can be very competetive. we'll likely have a top 3 pick in this year's draft--should be able to get a stud player there. And maybe the new regime might remember there's this new thing in the NFL called free agency!--they ought to read up on that.
The first time I've had any hope as a Browns fan for 5 years after this game and the bengals game...

I mean damn...the Browns have been right there in all of their games so far. Just need to get over the hump (new coach, receivers develop, a few key pieces), I think they can be a playoff team if they have any sort of consistency.

Joe Thomas was great. Gave them an extra chance at the end. :flop:

Honestly the Browns could be 3-1. They are very dangerous. In another year or two they could be playoff contenders, with a GOOD RECIEVER

Observations from last night's game and, yes, I did stay up for the whole thing (20 cups of coffee kinda day)...

The defense:

They had some nice pass rush and it was nice to see Sheard finally join the party. D-Line, with the addition of another impact DE will be real nice. DT I've already mentioned will have a nice rotation upon Taylor's return.

Secondary is just fucking garbage. Skrine shouldn't be covering any receiver man to man and Sheldon Brown? Uggh...was ready to kick in the TV watching Flacco just lob it up and let WR's run under it as our DB's were oblivious to the ball being in the air.

As for the special teams:

Hoping we never see Cribbs on another punt return after Benjamin broke that one. The kid is electric. Cribbs' had his day in the sun. Play out the year as a gunner/spot receiver then move on to your next team.

Phil Dawson? Nothing really needs to be said. Dude is a god who should RETIRE a Brown.

Now for the offense (and I'll include coaching here):

WTF, Shurmur? I said this in my earlier post during the game. You have a beast RB and he's not running the ball? And why the fuck are you ALWAYS giving him the ball between the tackles? Can someone answer THIS question? Does T-Rich not have enough speed to get around the end on a pitch/toss? If he gets in space (see swing pass & 20+ yard catch & run). Gotta get the ball in this guys hands.

The WR's, especially Jordan Norwood, are still hot garbage. Little shows flashes but dude has to be on pace for more drops than he had last year. Josh Gordon needs to learn the playbook/routes ASAP as he could be a threat. Too many dropped passes including 2 TD's

And now, for Weeden....overall I think he looked very solid. Pick 6 pass was a horrible throw which, unfortunately, we will see from this guy and other rookies. Was the play that swung the outcome of the game. Still gotta cut out that type of mistake. The pass to end the game was inexcusable. Gotta give your receivers a chance. Can't overthrow there. One thing I did notice was that he was FINALLY accurate on his longs balls. Little caught one and dropped a TD, as did Norwood. Weeden is going to be fine as this season progresses and I'm becoming more & more confident as we move forward that QB will NOT be on their draft "wishlist."

Shurmur needs to fucking put this team in a position to win. Yeah, I know it mat have seemed like "garbage/prevent" time but Weeden can run that hurry up/2 minute offense pretty proficiently. Shurmur is NOT going to win unless he gets some offensive balance. Not using Richardson enough is like jacking off while wearing a rubber....a WASTE of frigging time. You can NOT be "pass happy" when you have a rookie QB and expect to win. He needs the threat of play action.

Overall biggest disappointments were Shurmur's play calls, dropped passes and Weeden spoiling an otherwise solid evening with 2 VERY bad throws.

I'm surprised Weeden played as well as he did because he was staring down most of his receivers like a deer in the headlights, but I have hope, that could be just the rookie in him, it's something that can be fixed at least.

Julio Jones would look good in a Browns jersey right now

Then they would have McCoy throwing to him with obednaaya as their feature back. Jordo fails again. What's new?

What can I say? Some idiots just bring the best out of me.

TRich blew Ray the fuck up on that play you just posted a picture of.

Anyway, I am feel the same with the posters on here. The cupboard isn't bare. They still ahve pieces to fill, but honestly get a legit coach (i.e. harbaugh), and this team would be MUCH more competitive. Shurmur is just a joke. I can't wait for him to be canned. Why does he always abandon the run? He did this last year when Hillis actually having a solid game. He rather insist on our rookie QB to throw 40 times a game. WTF is he thinking? That 3rd and 5 pick 6, was just a god awful play call. Granted Weeden stared down his guy the whole time, but I could have told you what routes were being run a mile before that play started. Also BR, I am sure your question regarding Trich's speed to get to the outside was rhetorical, but yes he has the speed to do that. His toss sweep TD run proved it. Nobody even touched him.

I am done with Little. He is just a drive killer. Notice when the WR's actually caught their balls, and didn't commit any penalities they actually moved down the field? This team just gets in their own way sometimes.

52+ passes to 17 runs is all that needs to be said. For as much as some may dislike Weeden, you CAN'T expect ANY rookie QB to win consistently throwing that much. Shurmur must have been spawned from Andy Reid's ballsack....pass happy son of a bitch.

Nice article....like what Ryan Clark tweeted....

Exactly. Especially when you have a RB who is actually productive.

It still baffles me that they don't run toss/sweeps with him. We've seen what he does in space (swing pass last night, 22 yard TD vs Cincy, etc). It's almost like Shurmur WANTS to be fired.

If Shurmur had a fucking brain (which he doesn't and I'm done with him), he'd go more spread/hurry up offense and try to save his own skin....but he won't.

Preaching to the choir. It's inexusable, Shurmur is just a dipshit.

Stink seems to believe the Browns are improving though: http://espn.go.com/video/clip?id=8434126

Valiant effort from Weeden, he took some legit hits and kept standing in there. I wouldn't write him off just yet.

As for Little....fuck that guy. If I were a Cleveland fan I wouldn't care if he ever saw the field again.

They ARE improving on offense. They are moving the ball but are having issues putting it in the end zone. It's either dropped passes, an untimely/stupid penalty or a Weeden bonehead pick that are killing them.

As I said before, as this season progresses more & more, this offense will become formidable. The turnovers by Weeden will hopefully decrease as he becomes more acclimated. He's on pace to throw for 4000 yards which will be close to the Browns all time season record (Sipe-4100+). I can't speak for the dropped passes or penalties. These guys are just dumbasses.

The only thing that will hold them back will be Shurmur.

I can see that. I hope it happens, but as you said Shurmur holds them back smh.

Also, I know you aren't high on the defense, but I think giving up 16 points without one of their best players is pretty good. Also have to keep in mind along with Haden they are also missing Gocong and Taylor. Can't help but think Haden would have prevented some of those long completions that Flacco and Boldin easily made.

I'm sure Haden would've made a difference. Buster Skrine has no business starting (neither does Sheldon Brown).

We want to get him the ball in different ways," said coach Pat Shurmur. "He has such a bright future in this league."

Oh really shurmur? Then take your own fucking advice.
