The doe I shot only weighed 140. I ended up with about 80 pounds of meat.

Ok, sorry with all of the questions, but I'm new to hunting and really enjoy it, just want to learn as much as possible.
So I got the doe this morning. The problem is, I had to get to work. So I watched her go down and got out of my stand and came to work. I went back during my lunch to find her and dress her. I found her, but some complications came up getting there, so I had to throw her in the bed of the truck and leave BEFORE dressing. Obviously in a perfect world I would have right then, but I had to get back (poor planning I know). The soonest I can get her gutted is about 3 today. I'm having my wife bring a few bags of ice to throw on her.
My question is, will I be alright not dressing her for 7 hours after I shot her, or am I going to spoil the meat? Hoping for good news...

you'll be fine. Really want to worry about it if its in the 50s+. If you are putting ice on it, you shouldnt have any worries at all.

and congrats.

I always bring a plastic sleeve, you get that blood on you when its frigid I damn near had frostbite a few times. I always bring some rope too so I can tie the feet up to drag out of the woods. Where I hunt has crazy elevation change, took me 3hrs to get the last doe out although she was bigger.

Yeah hunting in the Appalachian foothills is no fun when you shoot one and it runs down the hill before it dies and it really isnt ATV accessible.

nice. 6 or so years ago, somebody killed a 26 pointers on the ridge above my Dad's farm. Cabelas ended up buying it.

I watched the big one this morning for about an hour. I had to leave early for class or would probably got a shot at him, he was heading my way. I hope he is there this evening and gives me a shot. Hell if the 12 is there tonight I will shoot him.

This is true and wasnt planning on going out this morning for the simple reason of have a few tests today. I should have never been in the woods but went and now I am wishing I would have just stayed in the woods and waited to see if I would have got the shot. One test got cancelled and the other one I just finished. I guess that is how it goes sometimes though

Anyone ever donate their deer to a group that gives to the needy? I already have 2 in the freezer that'll last us a long time, and I have an antlerless tag that expires here soon. I plan on keeping the any-sex that I get by the end of the year, so was considering donating the meat if I get a doe within the next couple of weeks.

I usually donate the buck meat. When I shoot does or young deer I will keep it or give it to family. The meat from bucks usually have a more gamey taste and most of my friends and family dont really want it. You also have to take the full deer to them or have it processed from a state certified processor to donate to homeless shelters

not sure of the validity, but someone of my facebook said this buck was killed in West Texas. It apparently got into nuclear water.

for some some reason the forum wont let me insert the image..but here is the location. http://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash4/311221_294947737283225_342731472_n.jpg

I have not been out in a few days. I really need to be getting out more before gun season comes in. I like to be done before people start shooting at random brown objects.

How does that work? This is my first season hunting. Do I have to wear blaze if I go out bow hunting tomorrow?
