Actually, he was a pretty shitty businessman. He did a lot for the league but his "business" skills sucked. He had a money machine on the Lakefront and decided to bolt.

If they are required for a moment of silence (Id expect Cleveland do to one regardless, along with Baltimore), it will just be a clusterfuck. I for one cant wait to see it.

Speaking as a really big former fan of the original Browns, Art's passing is of no importance to me. Life is too short and I moved on.

I take it you don't care for the NFL as much as you used to?

Couldn't think of a better way to start the season. Hope it was a slow painful death for the cocksucker.

Say a lot about Cleveland if Baltimore is a better choice for an owner.

He loved his team more than the city of Cleveland. Can't blame him for leaving.

You continue to prove you are a Cleveland troll and you have no idea what you are talking about.

I quit hating Modell some years ago. He did what he did and we have another team.

His biggest fault, in my opinion, was his undying love for the Browns. He loved this team so much that it blinded him to the business of running a football team and led to his financial situation that literally, "left him no choice". Let's not forget that Art and Pat Modell were major donors to charitable organizations in Cleveland, and continued that work in Baltimore. No one can say that they didn't give time and money to medicine and the arts.

In reality, Modell did some amazing things for the league. The TV rights wouldn't be nearly as lucrative if it weren't for the efforts of Modell and others. He helped smooth the merger with the NFL by volunteering to take the Browns to the AFC. That was a bold move, and Modell, along with Art Rooney in Pittsburgh, took a chance that the new league would prosper. There are many more things Modell did to make the NFL what it is today and, for all he had done, he probably deserves to be in the HOF. Now that he's passed, they can induct him without fear of the death threats.

I remember years ago in the old stadium, my friends and I used to sell beer for our booster club. We would arrive at the stadium early and occasionally we would walk along the upper concourse where the ramps led to the loges and the upper deck. Many times we would see a lone policeman escorting Art and his wife to their loge. He always said hello to us and asked us how we were doing. Nowdays the NFL owners don't come close to the fans like that.

His passing doesn't fill me with any joy, but leaves me sad. Sad that someone who cared so much allowed things to get to a point where he moved the team, broke a city's heart and forever changed his legacy.

Modell screwed up by not joining the Gateway stadium block (or whatever it's called) with the Indians and the Cavs.
Of the above mentioned three teams, what sport does city value most?

I blame the voters who allowed the team to leave. They were content with the city keeping the "Browns" name and allowed Modell to leave.

Happy to see him gone, but I would give him a moment of silence.

I hated Modell even before he moved the Browns. Always thought him and Marge Schott should have married each other.

You're a "troll" because you've got nothing better to do than hop on the Browns thread (or this) and add trollish/stupid comments. Ever since they whiffed on RGIII, you're butt hurt that you didn't get to jump on the Browns bandwagon and have been throwing potshots at them ever since.

B.S. I'm the minority from everyone adding celebration gifs of Modell's death. Sure, I've taken a few shots at the Browns. I've also taken shots at Masillon, the Cavs, even Cardinal Mooney and some of the other private schools from the NE.
It's not that I have anything in particular against the Browns, simply all of the NE (greater Cleveland/Akron area) sucks.
