Atkinson is a poor pass blocker and receiver. He wasn't going to do much in the game
Kelly has already said that Neal (and Ferguson and Brown) each have roles since they don't know the offense. It was pretty clear that his roll wasn't in the Purdue gameplan.
I think we've seen the offense, albeit it's been in flashes. It is tough though, when you have mediocre quarterbacks. Dayne Crist was simply a bust (he isn't even doing well in Kansas, as much as I hoped he would succeed), and Tommy Rees isn't a MAC-level athlete.
Their QB ratings...
2010: Crist - 129.3, Rees - 132.0
2011: Rees - 133.4
2012: Golson -
151.0
He has his athlete, who is only a RS Freshman. Behind him is the #1 QB in the class of 2012, and coming in is super-athlete Malik Zaire. You can't run a great offense without a great QB. It is finally getting underway.
