There is no better way to start the season than with a game between two back-yard rivals. Last year the game was very competitive, and the Titans were just 1 play away from making it a game, with the Knights winning 20-7. This year West Holmes is predicted to win the OCC by media members, while Triway will be picked by many (while I may not agree) to finish anywhere between 3rd and 6th in the PAC. Both teams return plenty of players from last year's teams, so I'd expect another tough game. What are everyone's thoughts?

I like West Holmes in this one, but I will say Triway has some excellent kids in the skill positions and with the backyard rivalry element, they may surprise some people.....that being said, Knights by at least 21.

I think if Triway can conjure up any kind of line, we can be pretty good this year! Like you said, we have the skilled position athletes on both sides of the ball. I think we also have the line we need... it's just a matter of them proving themselves and to get some experience. They'll need to be ready right out of the gate against West Holmes, though.

At the risk of sounding like a broken record or a Negative Ned, Triway will need to develop some sort of blocking scheme up front to win this game. WH will be much larger up front and has the potential to dominate the los.

Zone blocking, trapping, etc isn't beyond the realm of possibility in order to give the skill position players am opportunity to make the plays.

This game will be easier to predict after this weekends scrimmages.

I like the Knights in this one. Will be a great test for the secondary of West Holmes to go up against the Titans ariel assault. Knights have made a few changes this year on the line, and look for it to help a lot.

Not sure where you would "hear" that. How would anyone know, we haven't played a game yet. The line is mostly un-tested but I think with some of the moves we could actually have a better line than last year. How many yards rushing did we put up on you last year?

Their size alone will give Triway fits.

If by "you" you mean Triway, you were 41-182 rushing (Mackey 16-126), and were 0-6 passing. Total yards was WH 182 Triway 163. First downs were WH 10 Triway 9. Statistically it was a very close game, but 2 Triway turnovers really cost them.

Pit, I guess I could have been more specific, but as I was responding to a Youngfart quote, I was talking about Madison

Triway played us well defensively, although our offense was really struggling to click that night. It was the pick six right before the half that really did a lot of damage.

I had a chance to see West Holmes against Tuslaw and Waynedale on Friday night, and WH was by far the best team there in all aspects, especially the run offense and run defense. They are pretty big up front on both sides of the ball. Their running backs have a combination of size and speed, and run hard! Their D-line was stuffing plays and getting to the QB all night. Granted, Waynedale is going to be weak this year, and Tuslaw is not what they used to be. But it was a good start for a 1st scrimmage for the Knights.

However, Waynedale and Tuslaw had some success when they were able to get their athletes in space. I think if WH is to lose at any time this season (non-league or within the OCC), it'll be to a team that likes to pass and/or can get their speedsters out on the edges and downfield. Triway is one team that I think can do this, so I wouldn't count them out just yet. Will WH put up points? Yes, definitely. But I think Triway may be able to move the ball a little bit, too. A big part of this game will be game planning and execution - who does better, WH containing the pass, or Triway containing the run?

I agree with your assessment. We do not seem to be able to cover receivers in space too well yet. However, remember we never blitzed a single time. That is something to figure in, it will mean less time to get those athletes in space.

You and Pit must be a little special. I quoted and responded to Tiernan, who I believe was talking about our scrimmage this friday against Westerville Central. Do you think I would call Triway city slickers, lol Special Ringz and Pit Impaired

I am sure that is why you scheduled little old West Holmes. Hope we don't let you down. Don't worry, we are small, slow, and unathletic.

Actually you scheduled us...your coach had gotten to know the Westerville Central staff at a number of clinics over the years and suggested a scrimmage. I believe you are going to find out why the central Ohio "OCC" is the best overall HS sports league in the state.

OCC 2011 - 2012 D1 Champs in B&G Golf, Field Hockey, B&G XCC, B Swimming, B Basketball, G Track, B & G Lacrosse
D1 Runners - up in Football, B&G Soccer, G Basketball, B Track

No other league in the state can even begin to sniff that kind of record.
