I need a little help on how to treat what seems like a high ankle sprain. The pain is on the inside of my right ankle above the ankle bone and goes to about 2 in. above the ankle bone and it's painfull to the touch. Otherwise it's pretty much a dull ache most of the time, but at times pretty sharp pain. What would be the best way to treat this?

Heavy doses of pain meds.

Actually......ice and rest. If it persists then amputate.

work your way down to one minute and you should be good to walk ... do this twice a day morning evening for about 4 days... </SPAN>

This.

I'm wondering if a stress fracture or just shin splints.

There is slight swelling but no discoloration and nothing really stands out on what might have caused it. I do 3 to 4 miles 5 days a week on the treadmill, and I break up my nightly workouts at the gym with a "boot camp" class (1hr) (1 day a week) that didn't seem to cause any problems.

That doesn't sound promising. How long ago did the injury take place?

Smells like a trip to the Dr.

What kind of shoes do you wear? Have you tried running outdoors and not on a treadmill?

Sounds like shin splints or worse, maybe a slight stress fracture.

If you don't know what did it then it probably isn't a high ankle sprain. You'd know if you did that from the pain and shit immediately after doing it.

Shoes are Brooks Beast (less than 3 months old) I run outside but this just happened just last week. I worked with a resistance band like last Wednesday and things seemed to be getting better so I got back on the treadmill this past Saturday and the pain came right back (no more no less)

Was there ever that moment of agony where you collapse to the ground, smack the floor and cuss a little? If not probably not a sprain.

...I just read on line with that kind of pain & the location it could be either a stress fracture or tendonitis and only time heals them.

Soaked the foot ice for the first 20 hours, 2 hours before the match I did the contrast soak bath, taped the ankle played a complete match. Note. Hurt like hell after the tape was off....
