They say it's on the table...
Don't discount this: the Big 14. Seriously. Multiple Big Ten sources told the Tribune Wednesday that 14 teams, even 16, could be in play as it relates to the Big Ten's potential expansion. "Anything is possible," one source said, beyond the conventional wisdom of simply adding a 12th school.

I have a feeling Mega Conferences are going to be part of the CF landscape in the near future. I could easily see the ACC, Big Twelve and possibly the PAC-10 doing the same.

In a way it might just be the first step of a playoff system. Winner of each conference gets the automatic bid into the tournament.

I would love it for basketball. I think it would be difficult for football. Would just make an unbalanced schedule even more unbalanced.

I still think you should play everyone in the conference. I'd rather see conferences get smaller instead of bigger.

Way too much. Look at the Big East in Basketball; 16 teams and they just recently started allowing all 16 teams to participate in the conference tourny. Find a 12th team and run with it

Makes it difficult to play round-robin in football - that's six division games and three or four cross-conference games unless you start playing the "other division" team every three or four years.

I wouldn't be suprised to see this as well as other conferences begin to form "super coferences".

While the logistics of competition within become problematic, championships, retaining rivalries etc., the resulting power from those conferences may result in retention of the system currently in place. There's little question the BCS has come under fire and the natives are restless. Strengthening the confereces either by actual strength or by numbers serves the purpose of retaining the BCS which keeps the money where they want it. I see this as the underlying motive for even considering such a huge conference, there's really no reason to do so otherwise.

The B14 won't happen, but it looks like the Big10 will turn into another B12.

If you guys go 14, then I think Clemson and FSU would get tempted and leave for the SEC, leaving the ACC and Big East to create a 14 team conference of their own.

Ok, so the Big East would add 6 more teams to their already 16 team basketball conference? 22 teams? Aiye aiye aiye. There is more than football in all of these decisions. A team has to fit in all sports, facilities, and academics as well.

The 8 football teams in the Big East will likely split from the basketball schools in the near future, regardless of whether this idea goes into fruition. There has been a power struggle between the schools since the conference began. This ACC idea does make a lot of sense since there are natural rivalry's with WVU v. MD/VT/VA, BC v. UCONN, USF v. the Florida Schools, etc.

FSU has a natural rivalry with Florida. Clemson has natural rivalries with Scar and Georgia.
