Which is perfectly acceptable.
This was in response to not tipping because the waiter made a scene.

The restaurant business set up their pay scale to allow the customer to decide the value of the service they received. This allows the CUSTOMER to decide if a server is better than minimum wage. If they aren't, the restaurant covers the minimum by law.

Other industries don't use this system.
McDonalds workers make min wage - do you give them extra because you feel they're worth it?

If I appreciate the service, sure. Barbers, concierges, taxi drivers, cleaning lady, lawn mowers, pizza delivery guy, bartender, etc.

It's not required, but I do. In my experience, tipping well tends to get you recognized as someone people want to do a good job for. I value a good job being done, so I be sure to add an incentive for such a job.

Aside from that, it's also just nice to tip someone well who looks like they're trying to make the best of a bad day.

If you receive good service and don't tip, you indeed are a douchebag. That is the bottom line.

Lol the system is broken because you say so? I've never heard of anyone bitching as much as you about leaving a tip at a restaurant.

Tell me why someone who serves me food deserves a tip over everyone else who provides me a service. Seriously, don't like not getting a tip, get a better job.
Sometimes. But not 15-20%. Like hasbeen has said, it's different for restaurants because that's how the system is set up here. I don't think it should be that way but it is and me not tipping someone isn't going to change anything but make that person's night a bit shittier (unless they sucked in which case fuck them).

I just think it's funny people do it cause society says so. Only restaurants/bars hand me a receipt with a tip line and expect it to be filled out.

Why is it my responsibility to make their job better? they took the job knowing the parameters of it.

And for the record i tip - I just think it's a retarded practice. You get paid to do a job, don't like the pay? find a new job or deal with it, simple as that.

It isn't your responsibility and you don't have to. But if you got good service you're an asshole if you don't tip unless there's good reason for it.

I am pretty sure rawdawg is white trash. He wears affliction and ed hardy shirts, chills in the "woods of maine" aka his camper, and literally can't get the concept of this whole tipping thing.

Let me guess...mountain dew, well done burger plain, with ketchup?

LOL so you are bitching this much, but yet you tip? Talk about being a bitch. Either don't tip and bitch about it, or tip and shut the fuck up.

But the pay includes tips. What's so hard for you to get about that? They took the job with the understanding that a significant portion of their income would be tips. If they constantly get small/no tip you are correct that they probably suck at their job or work at a shitty restaurant.

I always laugh when people say "get a new job or deal with it" to people. Next time you bitch about absolutely anything at your job maybe you should just get a new one or deal with it. People have problems at their workplaces and they complain about them, get used to it.

So i take your order. write it down get your drinks prepare the food bag it and bring it out to your car and you never have to get out. whats different than if you sat there and ate it? You dont tip the guy who cleans the table... I still served you your food.

Rarely because the tip is not part of the salary.

You should care about the system because that's how it works.

Fuck him then. He doesn't deserve one.

It's not a broken system.

No because I don't feel they are worth it.
Raw Dawgin' it;1223376 wrote:I just think it's funny people do it cause society says so. Only restaurants/bars hand me a receipt with a tip line and expect it to be filled out.

People do it because they see the value in the service.
Raw Dawgin' it;1223378 wrote:Why is it my responsibility to make their job better? they took the job knowing the parameters of it.
And you went there knowing the parameters. The parameters are the customers tip is payment for that portion of the service.

They do get paid. The restaurant pays them for their end and the customer for theirs.

Unless of course they somehow don't make enough tips and they ended up below $7.70 an hour. Because then the restaurant legally must pay them at least $7.70 an hour.

I think the true problem is that perhaps Raw Dawgin It is eating at restaurants where he feels the servers are only worth minimum wage (and they may be, I don't know). But at anywhere decent I think the people deserve a bit more.

Theres been times when we had no business to even make tips and the girls still only made 3.30 that day. Its made up the rest of the week basically. The hourly wage basically ends up paying the taxes on the tips.
