The most "important prerequisite" to get to the highest level in any ATHLETIC sport is TALENT. I'm sorry, but racing is not in that category and I'm a casual fan...except for Nascar, that shit is lame. You cannot compare car racing to actual pro sports when a 60+ year old man can do it at the top level. :laugh:JTizzle;1215514 wrote:Just depends on how bad you want it and how much you wanna practice in my book. It also depends on how much heart and drive you have towards that particular sport. And lets not forget the most important prerequisite, who you know. There are more factors but I really dont feel like arguing about it.
Racing's most important prerequisite? MONEY.

Yuo yup would like to see you drive a Top Fuel with 8,000 hp and not spin the tires and make it all the way dow the track without hitting the wall! Not to mention the 5-6 G's of force put on your Arse at takeoff faster than a fighter jet and comparable to the frigging space shuttle. Oh yeah Brett Favre lolAutomatik;1215531 wrote:The most "important prerequisite" to get to the highest level in any ATHLETIC sport is TALENT. It's a talent. They're great at what they do. That doesn't make it a sport. Quit while you're behind.

Auto racing certainly fits this definition of sport.
"An activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others."

Hey thanks con, also name a sport where the player loses 17 pounds of sweat? Might be different now with some of the new cooling tech but temps still reach around 140 in a Nascar.Con_Alma;1215896 wrote:Auto racing certainly fits this definition of sport.

Losing 17 pounds of sweat does not equal a sport. Neither does driving around in a circle.

I read an article a long time ago comparing the heart rate and the demand on the body the elevated rate takes on that of an F1 driver over the course of a race. It was pretty significant.

I would agree but competing against others with physical exertion and skill seems to fit the definition.karen lotz;1215952 wrote:Losing 17 pounds of sweat does not equal a sport. Neither does driving around in a circle.

So professional sports teams look not for the most talented player, or the player that fits best, but for their friends' kids? I don't think so.JTizzle;1215850 wrote:Oh by the way it takes alot of things happening behind the scenes to make it pro also, which most people have no clue about not just talent bro a little more to it than that Have an awesome day!

The do also have road courses in Nascar in case you didnt know. Sorry I would rather watch fast cars then a bunch of dudes running around in tights lol. Bikini basketball now that might be on the top of my list if they had a team near me!

because you'd rather watch machines circle a track or a road course doesn't make it a sport either. It means you need to put spf on the back of your neck.

It would take a lot of money to get me behind the wheel of a TF car.JTizzle;1215848 wrote:Yuo yup would like to see you drive a Top Fuel with 8,000 hp and not spin the tires and make it all the way dow the track without hitting the wall! Anyone can race if they have the funding and then talent and skill is needed to get to the highest levels. Regardless, it's not the same as athletic sporting events. Like I said....60+ year old men are racing at the top levels.

Sorry racist jerk, Im not a redneck with your inferences red hair and do tan so next one fool. People crack me up with that redneck shyte does that make you feel all better because you seriously have absolutely no good comebacks. Sixty year olds also play golf so is that not a sport now what? In my opinion that takes the most skill and coordination of any SPORT!karen lotz;1215960 wrote:because you'd rather watch machines circle a track or a road course doesn't make it a sport either. During my college years I worked for the county highway department behind the paver as a shovel man (was often the only one) on those 100 degree days I would lose 10-12 lbs.
I thought I was doing well making $6.75 per hour.....turns out I should've been making top athlete monies. SMH

Funny a racing fan saying other sports are fixed. In NASCAR, 'team owners' conspire to let one of their cars win while the others act as blockers. Or, with restrictor-plate races, drafting their partner to affect the outcome.
Hell, I liked NASCAR, but Earnhardt died because he wasn't trying to win, but was trying to block so one of the two cars he owned could win. Both were in front of him. And I was a fan of his. That's the day that racing was soured for me. It wasn't 43 cars racing against eachother. It was insider politics and backroom deals that led to a lot of the positioning of a race.
