I don't really understand why he would kill it. There are only a few reasons to kill something(at least with insects): A) you feel threatened that it may cause damage to you and your loved ones or B) the pest is causing severe stress on your every day life.It was already outside. It was on the side of the house, as per the first post. I still would have caught it and given it to the local university.
A bug outside, especially something as harmless as a beetle, should be left alone.

This was outside my office last week. It's an Asian Rhino Beetle.
