Honestly, spend a week at Ford or GM and a week at Hyundai or Mitsubishi and get back to me. This isn't Honda or Toyota we're talking about. You're talking about bottom of the liner, cheapest of cheap in these cars. I'd possibly validate your opinion if it were Toyota.

Have to majorly disagree Zwick. In 2005, the company I worked for bought 8 brand spankin new Elantras. They have been outstanding vehicles, all averaging over 30mpg. One of them had a transmission problem at 93k miles...the dealer replaced the entire transmission for a cost of $0.00 to the company. Nada. Zilch.

The cars are completely solid. I will agree the original Hyundai models (late 90s) were tin cans but early in the 2000s they got their shit together and that is a quality car company.

Go with Subaru.

Only brand i will ever buy, yet to have a bad experience, and have yet to meet anyone else who has either. Proven quality, great service, affordable, etc., etc. Drove my first one, which i bought in high school, past 275,000 miles. Now driving a 2007 Forrester, and loving it just as much as my last one.

Don't kid yourself. They're still no where near on the level of Ford, GM, Toyota, Honda in terms of quality. They'll always be the cheap alternative b/c that's what they put in to their cars and that's their market.

I've had a Mitsubishi for 5 years and I have never had any major issues with it. Just routine maintenance. I've never owned a GM or Ford but my parents have a Chevy Impala and it seems like something new breaks on it every month.

I have two friends with ford focus'. The one had major engine problems at 33K miles (3K dollar fix). The other has had abnormal engine vibrations that they can never seem to fix since 40K miles, and the trunk has been broken since early on, maybe 10K miles. And those are the only ford owners I know.

My father told me when I was 16 that I wasn't allowed to buy an american car, because he didn't want to worry about a car that would break down. Had a Mazda 6 for 5 years, love it.

It's funny you hate Ford but love Mazda seeing as Ford saved Mazda from folding. Mazda wasn't worth a shit until Ford injected it's money and engineering department into it.

I have no problem with a manufacturer being in the marketplace that is made available to people with less quality and a lower market place.

It serves it's purpose and it's true market value will always make itself known by long term sales.

Lower end products are often forced to promise longer guarantees in order to stimulate interest and purchases. It happens in many sectors not just the automotive. field.

Agreed... but I'm just saying you're taking a Hyundai for what it is.. a cheaper, lower end car. You're only making yourself believe it's on the same level of some of the other cars.

Who is making themselves believe? There are people who buy these and know exactly what they are. Sounds to me like Hyundai is seeking to expand that level of sales to other areas of the market limit for them.

There is a place in the market for these cars and in order to push the limits of that market it often takes outlandish warranties and guarantees.
