In a bit of a lull as far as finding/hearing new music or bands to add to my library (New to me I suppose, I realize that just because I haven't heard of certain bands before doesn't mean they've not been around. I enjoy most genres of music, with the exception being actual "pop" music, such as these apparent new boy bands One Direction and The Wanted. Rock, Rap, Country, Metal etc. all have certain qualities that I enjoy, so pretty much open to any suggestions. So yeah if you've got any songs, bands/artists, or sites that you enjoy, let me know so I can check them out. Thanks all

First, welcome.

Second, you may find some good ideas in the "what are you listening to" thread: http://www.ohiochatter.com/forum/showthread.php?24943-What-are-you-listening-to/page12

inally, feel free to discuss new bands/new music here. Always good discussion to get going about lesser-known bands.

Justin, SVF, and I all agree that Ryan Bingham is the tits.

I also enjoy Lucero. Another rock band that I think has great music, but I don't listen to enough is My Morning Jacket.

There's a bunch, but I think it's good to dive into music individually so you don't get overwhelmed.

Thanks for the suggestions thus far. I've been a member for a while at this fine site but decided to start taking the time to post so that I can no longer be classified as a "lurker" lol

^^^ This would be helpful so that we all don't throw our favorite bands out here.

Glad you started posting. We are in need of some new people around here.

Two guys that I always suggest if you like actual country are Shooter Jennings (son of Waylon) and Leroy Powell. Both have a great mix of classic country and rock.

Leroy's site lets you stream some of his latest stuff for free to get a feel for his sound.

Tomorrow XV's new mixtape Popular Culture will drop. I guarantee it is going to be sick.

The artwork for it is pretty dope as well.

Nothing, and you know exactly what I meant. It's the main reason for the recent changes. Attracting new members. Anyway, this isn't the thread for that discussion.

Dream Theater. Lots and lots of Dream Theater. Start here (their first album had a different singer and different overall style) and move forward.

I'll look into that Dream Theater....When I saw Avenged Sevenfold live in the fall of 2010 Mike Portnoy was touring with them, and I had heard he was with Dream Theater...I've heard he's apparently left the band since then? Also, as far as favorite bands that's a toughie since I do actually listen to most genres. I would say that Rise Against, Chevelle, Avenged Sevenfold, Atreyu and Shinedown are my favorite harder rock bands. I also enjoy bands like the foo fighters and RHCP, but I don't know if it's just me or what but they've seemed to get repetitive lately. Haven't heard the latest albums all the way through from either band yet though. Theory of a Deadman is enjoyable as well. And Rage Against the Machine and Alice in Chains are up there for me too, obvi hard to gain ground since they don't produce new music anymore (other than Alice's new album like 2 years ago).

T.I. was my go to as far as rap. I don't know many up and coming artsists, pretty much just the mainstream usual. Country is hard for me to get into as far as following artists, I usually just like individual songs (Wife and I danced to "Then" by Brad Paisley at our wedding a couple weeks ago).

I found myself enjoying what I've heard of the Black Keys so far and Mumford and Sons as well.
