I'm 62 years old I been stabbed, gun held to my head, beat up a few times, house broken into, stopped a bank robber and a store hold up, stopped bar fight and been in a few in my younger days.
I don't turn my back if I see some wrong and I sure the hell do stop and let the other guy handle the problem. I do carry my weapon for back up now at 62 years old but then again you only need back up if you get involved. Something some people are fearful of doing…

What would he/she do?
What would you want then to do?
How would he/she know what to do?

There's a 99% chance he isn't going to ask what's in your trunk, and even if he does and you refuse the search, there's a 99% chance he isn't going to dick around and wait on a warrant.

Edit: If he specifically asks if you have guns in the trunk, or "anything dangerous", you should come clean and say you're going shooting. Still, you can refuse the search.
