I'd like to just throw it all in the trunk of my car, but I think they can't be in the same compartment. Is that true? I'll have 3 or 4 rifles, a couple of pistols and at least 500 rounds. I think it would look strange for any of that to be in the front of the car with me if I get pulled over on the way there.
I don't know if there is a specific law, but what is the harm of it being in the same place? Are you going to climb into the trunk, while driving, to load up and take out some bad drivers?
Just toss it all in the trunk. Just leave everything UNLOADED. In the chance you get pulled over, say absolutely nothing about the guns in the trunk. They need a warrant to search the vehicle (unless of course, you say "DERP GO AHEAD")
There's a 99% chance he isn't going to ask what's in your trunk, and even if he does and you refuse the search, there's a 99% chance he isn't going to dick around and wait on a warrant.
Edit: If he specifically asks if you have guns in the trunk, or "anything dangerous", you should come clean and say you're going shooting. Still, you can refuse the search.
Or you could be a nice guy and just show him. But for reals, you don't have to.
