I Wear Pants;1199112 wrote:For any of the older guys who wrestled...did coaches ever actually wear singlets like that? Because I see it in movies a lot but I've never encountered it myself.

So were coaches just that ridiculous back in the day or is it a hollywood thing.

I still don't have trouble with the rope, never had the pegboard in our room though so don't know how I'd do.
My father graduated in the 70's and he thought it was ridiculous.

We had the peg board in our junior high gymnasium and in the varsity wrestling room. Fun to try, but I was too scared to go to the top.

There is one in my gym.....the year I had kids try it no one could get to the top and the vast majority couldn't go anywhere. We just have the boards that are 2 holes across and 8 rows up.

Same, our coach wore one almost everyday. His had "USA" on it. He was a legit wrestling badazz. I suppose he could have worn a polo shirt underneath if he wanted to.

When you can grapple what you where doesn't matter. There are certain guys you don't question the type of singlet they where.

Yeah I used to do this all the time. I also loved climbing the rope. In jr high we even had the ladder like at state fairs where u have to climb up and ring the bell. I got pretty good at that. The one thing that got me was the wall. I was just too short to make the reach or jump to the next rock

Never had a coach wear a singlet unless it was in competition nor did any of the wrestlers practice in singlets

We had guys practice in singlets (usually with shorts) but never a coach and especially not over a damned polo.

I wasn't questioning the freestyle singlet but rather a coach wearing one and then further wearing one with a polo. Fuckin' weird.

Had one in our 8th grade weight room. It was a smaller version than the one in the original post in terms of width, but it was pretty fucking high.

I got about half way and ended up with a black eye. Never tried to conquer the beast again lol.
