Anyone have any good home remedies? I have it, and have no clue how I got it. I can get it by looking at it. Couple bad spots, then other small spots all over. What does the OC do to get rid of poison ivy?

Take a bath in heavy concentrated bleach water.
Hope this helps.

it's your best bet, etb...I had it last summer, and it may take about a week to clear up all the spots, but it stopped the itching immediately. Good luck.

Over the Counter: Zanfel. Expensive but works. Otherwise need prescription steroid meds. Either pills/shot or both. Bleach is used commonly. It tends to dry the skin/rash, but studies show it doesn't clear it up any quicker

There is a weed that grows by the base of almost every poison ivy plant called jewel weed. You pick it crush it up and rub it on the infected areas in a few days its gone.

I have heard about that jewel weed, too.

Also, the oil from poison ivy can still exist on dead poison ivy for several years. That is why people get it when they don't even recall being near it. Same for if you were picking up firewood that had once been in contact with the nasty stuff.

Once you have it, you have it.. The only thing you can treat is the symptoms. Calamine, cortisone cream, diphenhydramine cream, etc will help with symptoms such as itching and may help reduce redness around the area.

Be sure to clean anything else it may have gotten on because the oils from the plant is what actually gives you the rash. Clothes, tools, etc, if the oil got on on anything else, each time you touch it you'll likely get it again if you don't clean them.

Poison ivy fucking sucks. When I was in middle school, we cut down a Christmas tree that still had it growing in it. I was dumb enough to handle the tree with my bare hands and I ended up getting the poison ivy everywhere -- even in my eye and it was swollen shut. Haven't had too many run ins with it since, though.

That's pretty much what I was trying to say. And thus, friendfromlowry's comment. Good job, Big Chief and Go Tribe!
