There were rumors circling that the Yankees might go up for sale but Hal Steinbrenner is now denying them. What would you do if you inherited the multi-billion dollar franchise?

Keep 'em, for now. This franchise will continue to gain value, so I can sell (at a profit) at any time, or whenever I get bored with running the team.

This is my thought as well. Of course, I probably wouldn't think that if I was in the position to actually inherit the team.

Sell, then buy the Tribe and tell Dolan to go fuck himself. Then I would sell the Tribe to Cuban.

I hate the Yankees, so if I just happened to own them, I'd do two things.

1. Darbypitcher loved the Yankees. I own them. This gives me the potential ability to totally humiliate him in some hilariously public fashion. By maybe creating a "Miss Yankee" title for some bimbo, telling him he won an all-expenses-paid trip to NY to go with her to a game and setting things up so that becomes the most emasculating experience ever. Like her belittling him the whole time until she dumps him publicly for some other guy and then him being "dropped off" in one of the "KILL WHITEY" districts of town. In "Die Hard 3" fashion.

2. With that taken care of, sell the team and get rich quick.

The irony is that the rumor is Dolan's nephew is one of the rumored potential buyers of the Yankees.

He submitted a $750 million bid to purchase the Red Sox and that was over 10 years ago. With some other investors he could certainly afford the Yankees. Dude is worth over $3 billion.

I would sell, use the proceeds to purchase the Red Sox, and dissolve the franchise. Fenway Park is rented out as a landfill.

I would sell them.

Believe it or not the team doesn't make that much profit (according to Forbes the Indians had the biggest profit last year of $30 million). They bring in a tremendous amount of money, but between the payroll, luxury tax and revenue sharing, they are spending everything that comes in the door. George actually ran the team at a deficit for most of the time he was alive because he was obsessed with winning, and not the bottom line. His kid is apparently the exact opposite from what is being reported.

Now is the time. With the Dodgers having netted $2.1 Billion, it is not inconceivable someone would pay $3 billion plus to buy the team. They have a new stadium, and it is truly a once in a lifetime shot for a bazillionaire who can afford the ultimate toy.

If we wait long enough to find out the Dodgers were drastically overpriced, it will significantly hurt the Yankees prospects of topping that price. As of now it is still too new to really know if it was a good idea or not.

The other thing to consider is the team is at its peak value. The stadium gets older everyday, and the team itself is not far from experiencing a major transition period/dropoff. Jeter is in the twilight, as is A-Rod, and Rivera may be done. They have a ton of bad contracts, and Hal Steinbrenner has said the days of the $200 plus million dollar payrolls for him at least are nearing an end (wants to get below the $179 million revenue sharing mark). The farm system doesn't have much, and without flexibility to really break the bank because of an aging team with alot of long term deals, a slow decline is beginning for the Yankees.

If you can get $2.5-3 Billion you have to sell the team and take the money.

That wouldn't be a bad return on George's $8 million dollar purchase price in the early 70's!
